Huw Edwards in hospital as he is named in BBC presenter row

Huw Edwards is in hospital with "serious mental health issues", his wife says, as she named him as the BBC presenter at the centre of allegations.

His wife Vicky Flind said she was issuing a statement on his behalf after days of speculation "primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children".

The Sun has claimed he paid a young person for sexually explicit images.

The Met Police says Edwards, 61, will not face any police action.

The family statement said the news presenter intends to respond to the allegations personally when he is well enough.

The statement read: "In light of the recent reporting regarding the 'BBC Presenter' I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family. I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children

Predictable.

The only surprise is that they didn't directly reference Caroline Flack like Schofield did. Maybe that will come during the heartfelt softball interview on BBC prime time once most of this has been swept under the carpet.

All aboard the BBC gravy train. Extorting cash from the British public for decades. Toot toot...

Oh what was that? Fresh allegations???

Possibly followed by the "I need to protect my family" card.

Oh hang on, the wife has already played that one.

These people spin news for a living and that’s what is going on here. Poor old Huw! He’s mentally ill! What a shame! How he must have suffered! His poor family! Blah blah blah. He’s also now hidden from any questioners as well - typically in an exclusive 5 star resort posing as a mental health facility. They are lining up to make excuses for him claiming he did nothing wrong and not illegal. The Police have not pressed charges, that does not mean soliciting porn from a 17 year old by an old man is legal, or acceptable.

Hardly surprising given the hate campaign the Sun is running.

And look who rising to the Sun’s call to get the hate on.

Here's that over used word again hate. In this case though the public probably have the right to hate an old highly paid news reader forking out 35k to a junkie to send him porn from aged 17. Probably no accident the BBC still has that Eric Gill statue outside, a man who not only raped his own daughter but also his dog, well he probably had mental issues! Some things deserve to be hated.

(Sarcasm alert) it's perfectly acceptable & legal here in Thailand 55555

What has the age and salary of the person The Sun is on a hate fest for got to do with anything, or are they something else to hate?

Two hates in once sentence!

  • Popular Post

Let's put an alternate viewpoint

1. Two allegations have been made against him.

2. Both allegations have been investigated by the police

3. In both cases the police found that no crime had been committed

4. The solicitor for the first girl has stated on her behalf that the allegations were pure rubbish. Her mother and stepfather made the allegations to the sun newspaper.

5. The sun newspaper is part of the tabloid press which uses questionable methods to get stories (as evidenced by the current phone tapping scandal) including paying for information to greedy parents

6. The sun newspaper printed a revision of its allegations stating he knew the girl when she was 17 (previously they had stated the images were paid for to a 17 year old)

7. No one knows how old she is now but she is definitely over 18

8. Sending or asking for explicit images to a lover or friend is not illegal if the sender and recipient both agree.

What I see here is a tabloid newspaper creating a smear campaign against a respected presenter invading his family's privacy and domestic life.

For all we know he and his wife may follow the swinger lifestyle which is not illegal and is no one's business but theirs and this 'girl' who is actually now a woman is now one of their playmates. Her parents found out and are cashing in getting money from the sun to 'expose' this lifestyle as a scandal when in the modern western world it is no such thing

Right. But this option is only open to those with the right (by which I mean left) political beliefs.

No, the police have not pressed charges because there were no laws broken.

Move along please.

Perhaps the wrongdoings of Sun employees needs to be investigated - and the other newspapers. When did you last see any sex scandal attached to a newspaper employee? Is that because it has never happened or because they're far better at hiding it away?

Bear in mind also the The Sun is still owned by the filthy Murdoch - as is TalkTv and Talk Radio, two utterly garbage stations who feel they would be excellent as the state broadcaster, despite having the appearance of being run by schoolchildren. Trying to get rid of the BBC so that colossal money can be made has been a dream of Fleet Street for many years.

The Edwards story is unpleasant but is just a distraction for much more sinister goings on.

A very bizarre statement, and you sound so sure. "move along please" sounds a little premature to me.

Do you seriously expect the police to charge him immediately, these investigations take time, If you have read the first post in this thread you will be aware that fresh allegations have made, also as appears to be "normal" or one could  even say  "traditional" in these cases an appeal has gone out asking any other victims to come forward. . I can not remember any such appeal in the past, that has drawn a blank, often with people coming forward from decades ago

The police never charged Jimmy Saville, do you think that was also because no law was broken. and its not like he was above suspicion either.

I would suggest we stay right were we are and watch this unsavoury story unfold, make sure you have a comfortable seat as it looks like it will be running for a while

Probably a very good time to start a business offering "counselling services" it was offered to the colleagues of Schofield and this guy is far more well known. The BBC media snowflakes will be queing up for therapy, all at the public's expense.  there is a fortune waiting to be made.

Expect an increase in license fees soon too, once the claims for stress and trauma etc start getting paid out, again from public money

All in all a very sordid affair

Its only to be expected that a smug BBC stalwart is going to be on the receiving end of heightened attention and criticism in a situation like this and i personally think he deserves all he gets.

However a certain demographic as usual have leapt to his defence, some implying that this criticism is akin to "hate speech" others insisting that no law has been broken, I can, to a degree, see their point, to be honest, but I very much doubt the same people would be so quick to defend Nigel Farage if he had been in an identical situation

Murdoch has been brainwashing the far right for years into believing that the BBC was their enemy and must be shutdown; now he is using the Scum to do just that, getting his far right drones out with their pitchforks.

Rupert Murdoch told PM he MUST get rid of the BBC while 'bouncing Wilfred on his knee' during visit to his country house, says Boris Johnson's sister

My particular issue with your post is that the scrutiny of the likes of farage or Tory miscreants is almost non-existent in comparison. Compare the hysteria and demands to name Edwards with the ongoing (over 2 years) investigation into multiple allegations of rape against a Tory MP. Why is that case not whipping up even more wall to wall 24 hour outrage?

I don't like Murdochs media organisation anymore than I like the BBC

The naming and shaming of this guy is nothing to do with left or right wing, it transcends politics.

Are you implying that Rupert Murdoch behaved "inappropriately" when bouncing wilfred on his knee  ?  I would be very careful if I were you?

Well the police in this case can hardly be described as over zealous can they?

from the link in the 1st post on this thread

"It said detectives are "aware of media reporting of further allegations against the same individual" but has received "no specific details or information about these allegations... and therefore there is no police action at this time".

So they are actually aware of further allegations but have decided not to bother!

Not quite sure where you are coming from, Boris has been hauled over the coals regarding "partygate" and fined along with Sunak and others, Farage has had his bank account cancelled,

I have not heard about the MP accused of multiple counts of  rape but can only assume that any investigation is continuing, Do you honestly think the "woke" Met  police are ignoring it because he's a tory MP that would a be ridiculous theory

Furthermore the hysteria and demands to name the miscreant in this case, that you mentioned cannot be attributed to the previously unknown  offender i being left or right-wing  as nobody knew who it was, it could just have easily been a tory as I am sure there are a few of them working at the unbiased BBC

Anyway its very refreshing to see that the BBC  actually does employ a genuinely "fully diverse" workforce, in fact it looks like they will employ absolutely all sorts, a real open door policy. At least we cannot call them hypocritical in that respect

its a little bit more than merely "unpleasant"

I don't understand what all the fuss is about.  In my opinion The Sun, like the other dreadful tabloid rags do, are muck-raking and persecuting their perceived enemies while protecting their journalistic 'clients' from other similar (or not) scandals.  The police will no doubt fully investigate and commence criminal proceedings if necessary:  It's not like the alleged perp is a tory mp/ peer of the realm.

doesn't look like a respectable presenter in this photo, I bet he regrets posing for that one. I had my doubts when I first heard his name mentioned but I can see it now

This is obviously not straightforward.  The Sun evading questions and the police, after investigating said there is nothing illegal and no case to make.  Then the victim claiming that the claims (made by their estranged mother and stepfather) are all rubbish!

I have no doubt that Edwards has done some stupid things here and his career is certainly finished, but this baying for blood is just pathetic.  Most men are guilty of being lead by their little head more often than not, just look at how many of them end up in Thailand!????

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politics/mps-sexual-misconduct-allegations-westminster-26784786

56 MPs under investigation for sexual misconduct allegations a year ago and how much more of this have we heard - about nothing. Certainly not over-zealous.

There has recently been allegations of rape (from an anonymous very detailed email) against George Osborne but the story has disappeared in the wake of the Edwards story.
