The Move Forward Party said it would vote against the prime ministerial candidate of the Pheu Thai Party because Pheu Thai was forming a government with military-linked parties.


Pheu Thai says it plans to nominate Srettha Thavi-sin as its candidate during the parliamentary vote due later today.

 

The minister for Digital Economy says he will seek a court order to close Facebook services in Thailand, after accusing Facebook of failing to block fraudulent advertising.


Mr Chaiwut said his office had asked Facebook to block fraudulent adverts but without success.


The minister went on  to say some 200,000 victims had lost out due to  fraudulent advertising on Facebook and damage exceeded 100 billion baht.


Facebook is ranked the most popular social media platform in Thailand with over 48 million users according to Auscham.

 

Another wild elephant has been found shot dead, this time in a valley in the south of Prachuap Khiri Khan.
A vet from kui buri national park says the animal was shot at least twice, possibly a month ago but died within the last few days following an infection. The search is now on for the shooter.

The Japanese government is due to decide today when to start releasing treated water from the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant into the sea.


Around 1.34 million tonnes of water, equivalent to more than 500 Olympic swimming pools, have accumulated since the Fukushima plant was knocked out by an earthquake and tsunami that killed 18,000 people in 2011.
