BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited Muang Thai Phatra Market in Bangkok on August 31 to gain firsthand insight into the cost of living and food prices.

Engaging with street food vendors, Srettha inquired about the expenses associated with running their businesses, including ingredient costs, cooking oil, and cooking gas prices. The new premier assured the vendors that he would address the challenges of rising prices and inflation as soon as he officially takes office.

During his visit, Srettha interacted with market-goers to understand their most pressing concerns. The majority of individuals highlighted the escalating cost of living, particularly in relation to public utility prices.

The prime minister expressed his intention to discuss electricity prices in the first Cabinet meeting, aiming to potentially reduce the rates within four months of assuming office.

Traveling by subway to the market, Srettha was accompanied by senior party members expected to join his Cabinet. He interacted with commuters and admirers along the way.

Srettha’s market visit had a primary goal of collecting firsthand information and perspectives related to the economic difficulties that the public is currently encountering. As he nears the formal commencement of his tenure, tackling the issue of increasing living expenses emerges as one of his immediate focal points.

Maybe he should have asked why they are still using "single use" plastic bags for everything!

Yeah, let's see how not Hakka people live, but don't touch me please.

Give him 300 thb and see if he can feed and shelter his family for a week.

After that PM get yourself down to a supermarket and check out the absurd imported prices it will make you cry for sure ????

Never trust a PM who has to make a special visit to a market "to gain firsthand insight into the cost of living and food prices."

Like the Tories in the UK he obviously has a deep understanding of the day to day life and situations of the working class population in his own country?

I always find it amusing that politicians go on fact finding missions like this. They are simply self promotional visits. I would bet he has no knowladge of what the price of anything was 3, 6, 12 months ago and has no concept of how much a 10, 20 or in some cases 50% increase in supplies means for Mr and Mrs Somchai and their three kids. Maybe he could give some thought to Thais being paid by the hour sometime soon though.

Yeah, Sir Kier does all his own shopping and lives on a shoestring. Their is a reason for the expression "champagne socialist" and he is a prime example. I think the last Thai PM who wasn't unusually rich was Chuan Leekpai.
