You can watch youtube videos on double speed. The little cog wheel on the screen opens up speed settings.

An article wouldn't attract the advertising revenue that a video on a successful YouTube channel would?  YouTube analyses the amount of followers/number of views of a channel's content and pay the channel's owner to place their paid for adverts within as herfiehandbag has stated above.  Longer time means more adverts and revenue.
