Popular Post webfact Posted September 6, 2023 Popular Post Posted September 6, 2023 The natural phenomenon of the sun rising directly through the 15 gates of Phanom Rung Temple in Buriram will be viewable for the second time this year between September 8 to 10. The event, which is believed to bring good fortune, occurs four times a year. The invitation to witness this spectacle is extended to both Thais and foreigners by Phorakeiat Phuwanirandornkul, Buriram Province’s Public Relations Officer. Phorakeiat mentioned that Phanom Rung Temple is the only Khmer architectural site in the world that has such a natural wonder. It is a combination of architectural wisdom, with the construction of the temple allowing the sun to shine directly through the 15 gates and onto the Shiva Lingam. This is comparable to Lord Shiva, who is situated inside the main sanctuary of the Phanom Rung Temple, which is likened to Mount Kailash on the celestial sphere. by Neill Fronde Photo courtesy of KhaoSod. dpcjsr Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 The event...occurs four times a year. What? The equinox occurs twice a year. 1
klauskunkel Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Imagine you get there with your camera, only to have your shot obscured by handheld smartphones and metal barriers. Luckily it's a nice visit any other time of the year, too.
fulhamster Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Another place that charges non-Thais 5 times the entry fee even if you have a Thai driving licence. Don;t think they had seen one before ????

The full article describes sun >rise< and sun >set< through the gates. So seems you have to watch from one side or the other. "Each year, the sun sets directly through the 15 gates of Phanom Rung Temple twice, between March 5 to 7 and October 6 to 8. The sun rises through the gates on April 3 to 5 and September 8 to 10." not equinox dates btw 1
KhunBENQ Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 On September 9 the sun rises in Buriram at about 84° E. So the axis of the gates is 6° from the E-W axis. No idea what the particular magic is here.
PETERTHEEATER Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Stay home and illuminate your ligham with a flashlight and post a pic on social media. 1

JeffersLos Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 Why. I see the sun rise and set through my window every day.
