Customs or tax for sending glasses from Denmark to Thailand?

Recommended Posts

Hi

I ordered a new pair of sunglasses and some clothes in Denmark to a friend who lives there. The plan is that he'll send that to me from Denmark to Thailand. All items are new and just bought last week.

Will there be any taxes or something to think about with customs etc. for sending a package with those items?

Thank you.

Depends entirely how its sent. By Courier you will get hit, by Post, doubtful. Also be careful what and how its declared on any labels when sent.

Thank you. How do you recommend that it should be declared?

Legally speaking, am I supposed to pay customs etc.?

Spectacles (HS Code 9004.90.0000) are rated as 5% duty on CIF value plus 7%VAT on the total.

Clothes are rated as 20% duty on CIF plus 7% VAT.

I would send them separately as the duty tends to get charged at the highest applicable rate.

Any particular reason you didn't buy the specs here??

Send them by regular post (registered if you want tracking) and they might get through without being assessed.

Generally the limit is 1500baht declared value and then the tax is applied.

Cost + Insurance+ Freight , hence the CIF stated above.

Becareful what value the sender puts on the parcel.

Thank you. I couldn't find the model I wanted here unfortunately. What happens if the package gets assessed? Sent back or they'll ask me to pay the duty+VAT? Any fines?

Thank you. So I guess I should send by regular mail and declare value less than 1500 THB?

The courier/post office will tell you what you need to pay, no fines.

Assuming you send by Post (best) the parcel is held at your local Post Office for collection/payment.

They should send you are card advising you of that, (often dont). But you can watch on the tracking (advisable). If it has made it through without charge etc it will just be delivered as normal.

Don't assume that Thai Customs are daft enough to believe that a package of new clothing and new spectacles, from overseas (not China), could actually have a value of less than B1,500!
