Biden administration announces additional $325 million in military aid to Ukraine

The Biden administration on Thursday announced an aid package for Ukraine with a value of “up to $325 million” for “critical security and defense needs.”

The announcement came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was in Washington, D.C., to meet with U.S. leaders including President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). The package includes weapons like missiles and machine guns to help Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

“Today I’m in Washington to strengthen our coalition to defend Ukrainian children, our families, our homes, freedom and democracy in the world,” Zelensky said in an Oval Office meeting with Biden.

“And I started my day in the U.S. Congress to thank its members and the people in America for rolling big, huge support. I felt trust between us,” Zelensky continued. “It allowed us to have frank and constructive dialogue.”

Zelensky’s D.C. trip and the aid announcement also coincided with chaos in the House over funding bills and disagreement over Ukraine aid. McCarthy also said he denied a request by the Ukrainian leader to address a joint session of Congress on Thursday.

“Zelensky asked us for a joint session; we just didn’t have time,” McCarthy told reporters on Capitol Hill, according to videos of the exchange.

McCarthy himself has seemed hesitant to give aid to Ukraine. At a press conference Tuesday, he said he had “questions” to ask Zelensky when they met.

  • It's imperative that the Dems win the next election or Russia will succeed in it's invasion of Ukraine and get away with it's crimes against humanity.

  • Why not just set the money on fire? At least it would keep a homeless person warm for a couple of hours. It is insane to keep throwing money at this conflict when there is no actual exit strategy

  • Another war the Russians get involved with that will end in failure. How many has it been now?

We’ve been through this rodeo before in the late 30s Ukraine will be supported and as far as the dems winning next time around they will the republicans have blown it allready with women’s rights education gun control and an amply demonstrated lack of ability in governance

It is insane to keep throwing money at this conflict when there is no actual exit strategy. If the Europeans are so worried, let THEM foot the bill.

Soon they need to change Zelensky name to Freedom Fighters or something similar.

It's DejaVu...similar to arming Majahideen/Osama Bin Laden...& asking them to fight Russians in Afghanistan......

Then later Biden will try telling their new pals what to do & they tell Biden now you get the H#$ out of here too ????

Also similar to Libya

You know what they say...money to be made supplying tools of the trade. Sadly while it looks good in print it is US taxpayers that later are asked to bend over & spell R-U-N as they ultimately get the bill

Ooops

Yeah History is like that  ????

A wise podcaster often says, "if you want to know who America's enemies will be in the future, look at who we are funding today."

You can't even provide us the name of this "wise" podcaster?

The comedian? You call this slime "wise"?

An admirer of the anarcho-capitalist economist Murray Rothbard, he told Reason that like Rothbard he would abolish government if he could.[31]

Smith has been noted for interviews with far-right figures such as Gavin McInnes,[32][33] Nick Fuentes, Richard Spencer, and Christopher Cantwell.[32][34][16] Smith has called Fuentes a "fellow traveler", according to the SPLC.[16] In 2021, The New Republic called Smith "a Nazi sympathizer".

Thanks. What exactly has qualified Mr. Smith as "wise"? Has he a body of writing or research that has achieved any level of significance or has been widely referenced? What is his expertise and qualifications?

Not saying he isn't, but that usually these are the things that "wise" people have that demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.

He says things that racists like. That's his only qualification.

Kinda strange for a Jewish guy to be a nazi sympathizer, but whatever. Enough of the smears, perhaps you might want to take the time to actually listen to what he has to say before reverting to personal attacks.

I’m sure Putin agrees.

He often does agree with the right wing and to Biden point of view.

Or have I got that the wrong ways about?

As yes, the aggressive ignorance of the malinformed. God forbid you are exposed to something that might make you think....

But seriously, if you haven't done more than read Wikipedia perhaps you should tone down your opinions until you have actually learned a bit more.

Yeah, nah. There's no coming back from describing Nick Fuentes as his traveling mate. And a fan of Gavin McInness and Richard Spencer as well. That's just too stinky.

The populations in many european nations are getting fed up by this war,  fuelled by the US and Russia, that is costing trillions to the western nations and of course making as much money and profit to many global players in oil, arms, food, transport etc.

Consequently, this is more an investment for the involved, rather then a war. To some extent, even Russia is making money from the global crisis created by the US and their sanctions.

He's got a gob full of hatred and resentment.

What is the big picture pay back by Ukraine?  A spit in the face and tell the U.S. they did not give enough.  What a waste.

I wouldn’t dismiss Smith because he’s a stand-up comic (hell, so was Zelensky) or a libertarian (which is a long-standing political position, as extreme as I often find it). No, I dismiss Smith for allowing the likes of Nick Fuentes and Richard Spencer into his studio and giving them airtime; if he calls Fuentes a “fellow traveler,” I assume it was a friendly interview. For this, he is disgusting; he is stupid and wrong, and I would never waste time listening to his podcasts. Sorry. All sides *aren’t* worth listening to, and sometimes it’s not hard to make quick judgments.

Not only will Russia succeed in its invasion of Ukraine: Russia will see it as a sign of Western weakness and set their sights on their next victim. Maybe one of the Baltic states, or even Poland.
It will also embolden other countries to try to pull similar stunts. Like China invading Taiwan. So to all those rooting for a Republican win: be careful what you wish for.

If Ukraine loses, it has no choice.

It is up to the Americans which party they would choose, none of your business.

No, it’s not a waste. The “big-picture payback” is stopping unprovoked aggression, and you’re right, the US isn’t giving enough, or the Europeans. Seriously, sending boatloads of money and arms to the Ukrainians and letting them do the fighting (and dying) is a bargain at this point. Ever hear of Munich, or Neville Chamberlain?

Nah, those other countries you mentioned are all NATO members and covered by the NATO treaty. Ukraine is not. That is the biggest difference.  The "domino theory" does not apply.
