On the evening of October 2nd, a chaotic scene unfolded on Route 314 between Chachoengsao and Bang Pakong, when a large wheel detached from a moving truck, wreaking havoc but miraculously resulting in no injuries.

Around 5:00 PM, the wheel hurtled across the road, colliding with an Isuzu pickup driven by Pinitnan Plangklang, 50, residing in Prachin Buri. The vehicle suffered damage, but Pinitnan, having skillfully swerved to avoid a direct hit, was unscathed. The incident occurred near the NGV gas pump station, Sanphudas district, Chachoengsao province, reported Siam Rath.

The escaping truck was later identified, and its driver, 24-year-old Khomsan, admitted his unawareness of the wheel’s ejection, having heard no unusual sound during the incident. He returned to the scene upon learning of the accident from another truck driver.

Both vehicles were insured. The truck’s insurance company is expected to compensate for the damage. Initially, Khomsan was fined 400 Baht for careless driving leading to property damage.

Police Lieutenant Thonawat Thongcharoen, deputy inspector of Sanphudas police station, confirmed that the occurrence took place at approximately 4:30 PM. Fortunately, there were no casualties, thanks to the affected driver’s alertness and swift reaction.

Khomsan, a resident of Nakhon Ratchasima, recently purchased the second-hand truck trailer for soil transportation. He was en route to a delivery at an industrial estate near Motorway 7 in Bang Pakong when the incident occurred.

The bizarre event underscores the critical need for stringent vehicle maintenance checks to forestall potential road accidents, ensuring that all commuters can journey with confidence in their safety on the thoroughfares.

This makes no sense how did he drive back with a broken stub axle and the brake drum complete with wheels missing?

How on earth is that careless driving, if a mechanical fault caused it.

A wheel came off my car at 2 am once in South London while driving home wearing black tie after a dinner event. It rolled to a bus stop where a lone man who was waiting for a night bus stopped it. I went up to retrieve it and the only thing he said was 'are you James Bond?'.
