Thailand's Interior Ministry has unveiled four enhanced measures to tighten control over firearms, responding to the country's alarming gun possession statistics.

As of October 8, 2023, Thailand reportedly has over 10 million legally owned firearms, ranking highest in ASEAN and 13th globally. For every 100 citizens, 15 are gun owners, a statistic that has raised concerns.

The ministry's stringent regulations aim to stem the rise in gun ownership and control the proliferation of imitation firearms. Such controls are expected to minimally impact legal gun owners. The move follows concerns that these mock weapons can be easily modified into lethal firearms, posing a significant threat to public safety, reported Naewna.

Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Traisulee Traisaranakul , acknowledged that while many law-abiding citizens own guns for self-protection, a vast number do not possess firearms and are fearful living in a society rife with guns. With increased gun possession comes elevated risks to life and property, a sentiment echoed by many in the populace.

The Ministry, responsible for gun registration, is compelled to exercise its authority to mitigate these risks posed by firearms and their imitations. Collaboration with DES has been initiated to obstruct online illicit arms trade, and efforts are being coordinated with the National Police Office to tackle the issue of illegal firearms.

Mr. Traisulee assures that these initiatives will primarily affect illegal gun trade and ownership, with minimal impact on legal owners.

Every sector is collaboratively working at full capacity to ensure public safety and uphold the law, addressing the urgent need for comprehensive firearms regulation amidst rising concerns over public safety.

Selling anything online has to stop immediately.

Guns ammo whatever.

Modified guns or homemade guns are illegal, owning one, selling one, modifying one is mandatory jail time..

6 months amnesty to hand everything in, after that if your caught you do the time.

Carrying  a gun in public legally owned without good cause is jail-time.

Get tough.
