AMID news that Hamas fighters spoke in Thai to lure Thai workers hiding in their camps along the Gaza border and take them hostage, the Foreign Ministry last evening (Sept. 14) confirmed that Thais were not their special target, TV Channel 7 said.

 

Mrs. Kanchana Patarachoke, the ministry’s spokesperson, said both Israelis and foreigners have been taken capitve because there is a war raging at the Gaza border.

 

Hamas also issued a statement that three of the captives had died in the Israeli air strikes but as yet it is not known whether Thais are among them because their names had not been released.

 

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin will presiding over a meeting at the Foreign Ministry’s workers assistance centre and follow up on the situation in Israel.

 

Thousands of Palestinians fled the north of the Gaza Strip on Saturday (Oct. 14) from the path of an expected Israeli ground assault, while Israel pounded the area with more air strikes and said it would keep two roads open to let people escape, according to a Reuters report published by CNA.

I got news for the ministry,  Hamas nor any terrorist organization could care less about anyone let alone Thai people in Isreal. Their objective is to inflict as much death, destruction and terror as humanly possible!! Collateral damage be damn.

Wrong, the war started AFTER innocent civilians were taken captive by Hamas

They have not "been taken captive" during a war. They have been kidnapped from their homes and work accommodations. There is a huge difference. This wasn't an act of war - it was a terrorist attack on innocent civilians in brutality that has never seen before in Israel. These were murderous zealots the likes of ISIS, not soldiers in a war. Hamas is ISIS.

All who were not Hammas in Israel were targets under the initial attacks....so one might say the OP is not relevant..... they must have been targets as some died.

On my last trip to Phuket, I saw thousands of tourists, that looked exactly like the Hamas people I see on TV.

I completely agree with you. It was definitely a plan to take both israeli and international hostages. Israeli hostages are mainly valuable to Israel, while foreign tourists and migrant hostages are valuable to the whole international society.

Not targets, yet 17 hostage and more than 20 dead.

Don't put animals down like that- they don't do those things, or hate, and they are not religious. 

I'm sure the hostages led away at gunpoint will be happy to know Thailand assures that they are not special to Hamas.

Too bad the dead won't get this message.

Maybe not but some of the published figures have Thailand near the top of the table for deceased (28) and held hostage (17).

 

Perhaps they were placed in the most forward farms?

Apparently they used the same sentence repeatedly. I'm sure they knew there were many Thai workers in these areas. They could have got it from Google and remembered before they went in.

Apparently Israel needs a lot of foreign labourers, but they stopped hiring Palestinians as they consider them 'untrustworthy', so instead they now hire large numbers of Asians (Filipinos, Thais, Chinese, Nepalis), who work in agriculture, construction, and healthcare. Lots of kibbutzim and construction near the border to Gaza. According to a CNN report two days ago, also 10 Nepalis and two Filipinos were killed, others were missing, but such details were probably not newsworthy to Thai media...

They just said hello in Thai.  They can not ''speak Thai''.  They kill anyone who isn't Muslim.  They just assume Thai people are Buddhist.

 

If the guy started chanting in Arabic they would still be alive.
