Is Thailand Becoming Like The Place You Wanted To Get Away From?

It is hard for the youngsters on this forum to understand the way things were in the past in Thailand. For me, I remember a much more relaxed place to live.......far less crowded, no real estate hounds on every corner, less traffic jams (none in Pattaya-Jomtien and almost none in Chiang Mai), much cleaner air in the big cities, nicer people (both farang and Thais), not as hot (most old people will tell you that it is much hotter now than it was 20-30 years ago). Too many changes to list here.......

I remember walking on Jomtien Beach and I was virtually alone......can you imagine that? I can't even remember one encounter with a right-wing-conservative moron........people who spend all of their time counting money and thinking they are special. Most of the expats in the past seemed fairly liberal.....of course, there were many expat soldiers, but they were sick and tired of war and just wanted to chill out. And the Thais made you feel welcome (very different from today.....only false smiles for those with lots of money to spend).

Now I am seeing contestants from the Jerry Springer Show all over........people who think Fox News is news.......people who believe Ronald Reagan was a great man.......people who judge people by how much money they have in their bank account.....people who have never read a book of any substance.

Now I am seeing Thailand turn into a twisted form of Amerika and it makes me sick.....adopting the worst habits and embracing the worst types of people......wallowing in values that could only make Richard Nixon smile. Of course, it is happening all over (hopefully right-wing conservative is dying).
