OUTSPOKEN FORMER MP NIPIT Indarasombat today (Oct.18) expressed his admiration for construction tycoon Premchai Karnasuta for having practically abided by the rules of law whilst condemning de facto Pheu Thai boss/convicted inmate Thaksin Shinawatra for having largely failed to do so.

 

Without mentioning Thaksin by name, the ex-Democrat MP posted on his Facebook page to make comparisons between the former president of Italian Thai Development Plc. who had served most of his two-and-a-half-year term in prison and was yesterday released on parole and the de facto Pheu Thai boss/convicted inmate who had stayed at a nursing unit in the premises of a prison for barely half a day in August without being literally put behind bars.

 

Nipit said Premchai and Thaksin are both very well known by members of the public though the latter may undoubtedly have more wealth and more political power than the former.

 

Nipit said the well-to-do construction tycoon had paid due respect for the rules of law and had never asked for privileges from the Corrections Department over his jail sentence for convicted involvement in the hunting and slaying of a black panther in Kanchanaburi’s wildlife sanctuary.

From what I recall of pictures of Premchai a couple years ago, it appears like he has been fed well in prison. Or maybe family brought treats on visiting days.

He eventually served his sentence after every avenue was exploited not to do so..

Thaksin is in a different league... The band of brothers.

It looks like one of them ate the other to me 🤔

He doesn't look like he's had a tough time behind bars. We'll never know just how tough he had it, if at all, during his tenure as an inmate. I'd bet my house that he was afforded more privileges than the average prison cell occupant.

At least the big guy did the time, not like the other spineless hi-so wimp!

Must have been a clever little bit of subterfuge, smuggling Premchai back into the prison through the back gate before he could walk out the front on "release". I don't suppose he even had to bring a toothbrush with him!

If you add up the time before he was smuggled out at the start of his sentence, and the time after smuggled back in for public release I doubt it amounted to 24 hours.

He didn't look great being helped out of the prison door to the waiting motor home.

 

 

"Premchai Admired"? Not on your life, I want to see that pig die in prison, and he should have had all his money/assets confiscated and sent to the preservation of wild animals.

if a poor rice farmer or warehouse got caught doing anything like those two did they would never see the outside again!

If you are wealthy you can get anything you want in jail, but I'd bet he wasn't sharing a cell with 20 others, sleeping on the floor with a toilet in the middle of the room.

The rich all get breaks that the average commoner will never get.  It's a two-tiered system but that said, it tends to be global in nature.

If you recall the images of him shown when he was apprehended two years ago he now looks much healthier.

In the UK criminals cosigned to open prison, usually done for tax evasion, can sometimes be allowed to run their legal businesses from prison in order to get funds to repay the debt. Open prisoners are also allowed unaccompanied day release in local towns, case in Point is Myra Hindley the child murderer who was spotted more than once roaming the town near her prison.

Thai prisons provide three meals a day and inmates have access to the prison shop from where they can buy whatever food they want using their prison account, no reason for prisoners to necessarily lose any weight unless they want to.  They can also have food brought in by visitors or order certain items themselves the night before for morning delivery.  In Klong Prem many inmates ordered doughnuts to have with their coffee (3-in-1 sachets from the shop) in the mornings and roast chicken for afternoon snacking...that privilege applies to every prisoner.

Why?  He did his time (and had it increased by the appeal court) and paid several million baht in fines/compensation.  Why, rationally, should he have all his money and assets confiscated, do the courts in your country do that or do you just want it to apply for Thai people?
