Judge denies Trump’s attempt to delay Jan. 6 civil lawsuit

A federal judge on Wednesday denied former President Trump’s attempt to delay a lawsuit against him seeking civil damages over the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

After Trump was indicted on federal criminal charges stemming from the 2020 election and Jan. 6, his attorneys in August attempted to put the civil lawsuit on hold, citing substantial overlap.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta denied Trump’s stay motion in a brief order issued Wednesday, calling the request “unwarranted.”

“This case remains at the motion-to-dismiss stage,” Mehta wrote. “The claimed dilemma posed by simultaneously defending himself in this case and his criminal case only will arise, if at all, during the discovery phase. His request is therefore premature. Further, the balance of interests, including Plaintiff’s and the public’s in moving this matter forward, do not favor a stay.”

Sandra Garza, the longtime partner of Brian Sicknick, a U.S. Capitol Police officer who died hours after the Capitol attack, sued Trump just ahead of the second anniversary of Jan. 6.

Sicknick was pepper sprayed during the attack and passed away the following day after suffering two strokes. The medical examiner months later ruled he died from natural causes, while noting that “all that transpired played a role in his condition.” The U.S. Capitol Police said Sicknick died in the line of duty.

Trump had sought the pause days after he was charged with four criminal counts in Washington, D.C., over his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election, including allegations related to Jan. 6. It is one of four indictments Trump faces. He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

True to what word?

Which side of his bread buttered? Which hand is feeding him?

What’s he being fed with?

Where’s your facts Jonny?

All baseless conspiracy.

You don’t like Trump, being held to account, so you dream up a conspiracy.

Yeah ... what a total crock of sh!te.

Conveniently can't recognise the Trump appointed judges across the country that have thrown Traitor Trumps bogus litigations out of court dozens of times, and in specific regard to J6 conspiracy/sedition,  and massive serialised lifelong Rico statute fraud matters.

Why are so many Americans unable to understand that politics and the courts are separate things. The laws that are there have existed long before any current politician was elected. No democrat has suddenly come out of the woodwork to pass them to 'get' Trump. The laws were there and Trump is accused of breaking them and he has the right, like any other citizen, to defend himself in court. But it appears that his rabid supporters want those long-standing laws not to apply to him. It isn't for them to decide if he is guilty or not. It is up to a court and, in some of the many cases against him, a jury.

Some of Trumps supporters equate him to Jesus and Trump himself has equated himself as the Second Coming of Christ. Yet, according to the biblical stories, Jesus taught obedience to the Civil laws of the land required by Rome who occupied the land.

The only judge who openly appears to be favoring a criminal is Aileen Cannon. legal experts have called her rulings “Dopey and Constitutionally Dubious” She has also been labeled as 45's personal defense attorney.

I'm not actually interested in some fable that was written thousands of years ago concerning someone who defied science and was said to become alive again after being declared dead, with no possible means of judging whether or not it has any validity. But thanks for the comment.

But, come to think of it, there are sometimes reports on here about people being carried to their cremation who are found to be alive, so.......

I think this photo version of that poster in colour is a little bit better.

Got any links to back that up?

As far as I am aware there has been no convictions against Trump for sedition. Presenting opionions as facts without evidence is against forum rules.

Evidence ? Sure- 1/6/21 he incited violence against the US Capitol and Congress ,he contacted members of the Michigan legislature and tried to get them to overturn the Election , as president of the US he did nothing to protect the Capitol as it was being attacked which was his Constitutional duty . He ordered an attack on peaceful protestors in Lafayette Square  so he could show off holding a bible.  The list is long .      There have been no convictions against OJ Simpson for murdering Nicole -he did it.  Donnie perpetrated sedition and attempted to overthrow an election  but you already knew that . He hasn't been convicted because Americans fear a civil war. You want a link? Google 1/6/21  you will see plenty of evidence.

I don’t need links for my opinions, I only need to produce links if I state something as being a fact.

I very clearly stated my opinion.

You on the other hand made this statement:

Which purports to be a statement of fact, and yet you provided no links.

I simply demonstrated the absurdity of your biased and u substantiated statement.

Thank you for loving the Left.
