In the early hours of October 20, law enforcement officials stormed an unlicensed karaoke bar in the heart of Chiang Rai, exposing illicit activities including drug abuse and underage employment.

The raid, led by Deputy Provincial Governor Saranyu Meethongkam, was instigated by complaints from a non-governmental organization combating human trafficking, reported Thai Rath.

The establishment was accused of operating without proper authorization, selling alcohol past legal hours, and employing over 10 females, one of whom was under 18, engaging in drug use and potentially involved in sexual exploitation.

The underage employee was rescued during the covert operation, backed by a team of professionals.

A thorough investigation of the venue revealed the presence of a considerable volume of ketamine. The manager and another person, both nearing their 40s, were taken into custody.

They are currently being accused of running the establishment illegally, violating alcohol sales time restrictions, and involvement in both drug and human trafficking.

Legal proceedings are underway, highlighting the persistent issue of illicit activities in the region. The incident has spurred a renewed commitment to stringent oversight and enforcement of laws to protect vulnerable populations and ensure public safety.
