Tm30 and Certificate of Residence, Chiang Mai: success

Recommended Posts

"Reporting back that this morning I was at Immigration (small building in the back for TM30, next to copy shop) and renewed a TM30 from 3 or 4 years ago as I have a new extension (Non-O based on retirement). I was still residing at the same address. The officer looked at only my old TM30 and my passport and filled in a new TM30. That's it. The cost was zero. I had tried doing it online with no success that I could discern."

Updating a TM30 filing (when necessary) is rather easy here at CM Immigration but I'm wondering why you did that.  Can you advise why you felt the need to do so?

Because I received a new extension which was switched from based on marriage to based on retirement. And I needed a cert. of residence. Maybe I didn't need to.... Nobody seems to really understand the mysterious, enigmatic, TM30. Not even Immi.

I'm no specialist compared to many of the immigration guru's to whom it's only gratitude for their valuable expertise and sharing.

But one thing is for sure. Each office seems to have it's own rules here and there ?..... and each officer has and makes up his own further below the food chain.

Add to that the mood of the day, that ends up in even changing rules made up,  depending on the time of the day...or the month if it a Missus !!!!

I'm happy to have the new TM30. I feel "legit", within the rules if ever asked, and fresh like a newly blooming daisy. So fresh and legit that the cert. of residence officer was all smiles when I presented my documents and request. I actually left Immi with a smile on my face. That's priceless, like Visa...or something like that. A visa?

No official receipt, no.

If you ask for a receipt they will probably change their mind and give the 500thb back to you. This happened to me just this week when I went for transfer of O visa retirement extension stamps and re-entry permit to be transferred from an old passport to new. IO asked for 500thb with a smile and I said I did not know there was a charge but handed over 500thb saying 'Can I have a receipt please'. Her face dropped and turned to tell her supervisor sitting at the back. Then she gave back the 500thb saying 'No problem for you'.
