Hi, has anyone entered the Phillipines without a return trip or ongoing ticket?

I am wondering if this is 100 % necessary for entry to the Phillipines as I want to keep my itinerary flexible.  Im American flying from Thailand (if that matters).

It's required by Immigration.

A very few reported on local forum that they entered the Philippines without a onward exit ticket, but a huge majority was asked for their ticket at Immigration.

Rent a ticket is one option, or a actual throw away budget flight to Malaysia.

On my 10+ trips there, I was always asked for my ticket.
