Airbus Targets 20% Growth in Thai Helicopter Market

BANGKOK (NNT) - Airbus has set its sights on expanding its helicopter division in Thailand, expecting to tap into a growth potential of 20%. The anticipated increase in demand is largely due to the need for helicopters in disaster relief, search and rescue operations, and maritime security across Southeast Asia.

 

With 71 helicopters already in operation in Thailand, Airbus holds a 30% share of the civil and para-public helicopter market in the region. The European aerospace giant is planning to capture at least half of the projected growth in Thailand’s military and public service sectors over the next decade.

 

The company has outlined a strategy that includes the establishment of an Airbus Flight Operations Services Center and a customer center in Bangkok. These facilities aim not only to provide maintenance and technical assistance to Thailand but also to support customers in Laos and Cambodia.

 

In collaboration with Thai Aviation Industries (TAI), Airbus is looking to deepen its roots in the country. TAI, acting as Airbus’ prime contractor, plays a pivotal role in servicing the governmental helicopter fleets.

 

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Airbus is focused on reducing carbon emissions with a goal to achieve net zero by 2050. This includes updating aircraft with newer engines, promoting Sustainable Aviation Fuel, and investing in hydrogen aircraft development.

 

Airbus, confirming Thailand as a strategic partner, is keen on reinforcing its presence and partnerships in the region. The company is set to showcase its latest helicopter technologies at the upcoming Defence & Security exhibition in Bangkok.

The only helicopter market in Thailand is top government officials, and the army, that is it. There is no private transport industry in Thailand as it relates to helicopters and small private planes. The army, and the Air Force control the skies entirely. 

 

It is a very sad truth and holds the nation back.

That's BS. There is a demand for Helis. Older Helis have to be replaced, maybe even the 21 Helis owned by the King, paid by Thai people. Also Thai Airways, mainly supplier of any aircrafts need carrier for people avoiding combusted traffic or poor transportation in lonely areas.👍

Rare indeed is the sound of choppers in Bangkok and when seen, they are usually military.

Kind of surprises me more wealthy people don't use them to commute in and around Bangkok.

There's certainly more than a few high-rise buildings around town with helipads that remain virtually unused.

Nonsense, there is a private helicopter and "small private plane" industry in Thailand, entirely separate from the armed forces.

Are you informing us that Thai Airways now offers a private helicopter service? That would be great news to a lot of us, and would encourage wealthy tourists to visit. Please give us the contact information we need it desperately.

Please inform us. I have had wealthy friends visit from various nations who were searching out private jets and helicopter travel to avoid the massive congestion on the highways, and they came to a dead end. The last thing they said to me is we really liked it here but we'll never come back. Too many unresolved issues.

Still a big enough market for these loud birds flying past my home at least 10x every day...

If you look at it you will see that there are quite a few helicopters and their are planes registered to private companies and organizations in Thailand.

 

Remember, if you are rich enough to own a helicopter or private plane , you would register it through a company and not your name.

How do you figure they get the crew out to those offshore rigs?  The rigs that are too far out for boats to be practical...

They should have looked harder, there are a number of companies that offer those services and if you want a list of them that would be easy enough for you to find yourself...you know how to research the internet.

Okay top government officials, the army, the Air Force and a few helicopters used by private industry. My point was that there's not really a civilian industry for helicopters and private planes, to move around wealthy people from point A to point B.

There are a few charter Air companies in Thailand.

 

They are available if you want to pay for it.
