Govt Slashes Visa Fees for Migrant Workers

BANGKOK, Nov 6 (TNA) – Thailand reduces visa application and extension fees for foreign workers from Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to 500 baht, effective from Nov 11.

 

Mr. Somchai Marakotsriwan, the acting director-general of the Department of Employment said the fee reduction was announced in the Royal Gazette on Oct 27 and will be put into effect for four years.

 

The visa application fee will be cut to from 2,000 baht to 500 baht (valid for two years) and the visa extension fee will be reduced from 1,900 baht to 500 baht (valid for two years).

Isn't the Philippines part of ASEAN? Why don't they seem to be granted these various visa deals

Good heavens... some forward thinking.

All well and good, but what exactly is this supposed to accomplish, other than lowering costs for the often exploitative Thai corporations that use these laborers?

This has nothing to do with ASEAN per se. It's about unskilled migrant labor, which the Philippines does not supply to Thailand.

A bit more duel pricing! just waiting for some offsetting news as to who will makeup the losses 🤔
