Chinese tourists are returning - but not to Thailand

For Chinese tourists in Bangkok, 76 Garage, an open-air restaurant on the northern outskirts of the Thai capital, has long been near the top of the list of places to visit.

And they go there not for the food, but the waiters.

In the middle of the restaurant is a swimming pool. The evening reaches its highlight when the waiters, all fit young men, strip down to their shorts and wade into the pool, offering to carry the diners for a photo op and a tip.

There was a time when 76 Garage was so popular you needed to book a month in advance to get a table. These days half the tables are empty.

Thailand's lauded tourist industry is missing its biggest customers: the Chinese.

And Thailand's biggest appeal, he says, is "that element of adventure and, let's say, manageable danger".

Perhaps Jonathan Head has resorted to ChatGPT to write his nonsense as well? Made no sense to me either.

Promise?

My stepdaughter works at King Power. They are down in sales significantly. They are juggling staff between Pattaya, Bangkok and U Tapao every month. The heyday is over for them.

She says some days her sales are zero or only a couple thou.

Pre CV several tour busses would arrive each day and her sales topped out at 200k per month.

I've advised her to have a plan"B" just in case.

Chinese are high IQ people. They experience, learn, remember, and act accordingly.

Quote
Chinese tourists have taken to their social media to say that a Thai company ripped them off to the tune of thousands of baht for a Loy Krathong/Yi Peng celebration that left them completely unimpressed.

So bad was the rip off that Chinese tourists were seen in clips chanting their dissatisfaction before a crowd surged forward and one man stormed a stage where a cultural event was taking place.

The angry crowd were furious they had been charged 6,000 baht for VIP tickets - and got virtually nothing.

Well I'm sure tourism dollars are down, but it is likely many are enjoying the lack of Chinese crowds. It did get to be a bit much there for a while.

Although having said that, I much prefer the Chinese tourists to the Russian tourists. The Chinese are sort of fun-loving, the Russians are just dour and very, very hard to be around.

So where are they going then?

Who cares, so long as its not here. Cambodia I presume, as they virtually own the country and can gamble to their hearts content

That's not actually too far from the truth. There are documentaries on what's happened to Sihanoukville as a result. It's not pleasant viewing, especially the DW one.

They are both as bad as each other, just in different ways, imo.

Wouldn't at least a few words supporting the notion of the headline be useful. Articles are usually poor here, but this one exceeds normal level of inadequacy.

The title does not make any sense.

some thing as easy as stating where they are going takes no room at all, instead of creating click bait articles

for some, such as you barry... ignorance is bliss and you are quite blissful so go insult someone else
