I have been looking at the prices of Nikon D40X camera kit at Pantip plaza the and I am abit confused

at the price differences for cameras.

The average price is 22000 baht though I cant get the V.A.T back but I have been told that the camera

has a years warrantee though I dont know if this is a Nikon warrantee or a shop warantee.

Then after checking the prices out out Data It the camera is around 7000 baht more expensive.

The one for 22000 baht is made in Japan not to sure where Nikon is made anyway I am interested to know

why such a big price difference and are the cheaper cameras original?have been brought into Thailand illegaly?

and are they under Nikon warantee?

any advise appeciated.

D40, D40x, D50, D70, D70s, D80 and D200 are all made in Thailand exclusively.

What lense is included?

Does the difference come from local and international warranty.

Some are gray market imports. edit (thay may all be made here but I believe they are all then exported and re-imported. go figure.)

They are all original.

I you live in thailand I'd buy the cheapest.

I have taken my own advice in buying d40x , d70 , d80 and d2x.

Cheers

Thanks for that Percy thats what I am trying to understand is the price difference I have priced the same camera with lens (D40X kit basically)

and there is the 6000 baht difference that makes me think that there is something funny about the cheaper one.

The lens is 18-55mm.The cheapest I found was 21 700 baht with 1 Gb memory card.

Where from , thats a good price.

Ask if they give local or international warranty and is that warranty from Nikon.

If you live here and its a Nikon warranty just buy the cheapest , if it goes wrong and you have Nikon warranty you you should be able to take it for repair to Niks the official dealer

Generally there are two types of warranties sold with digicams in Thailand. First is the "manufacturer's warranty" (pra-gun haahng, pra-gun soon), which means that it's been imported by the Thai authorized distributor and will be serviced by the authorized service center in Thailand. Second is the "store warranty" (pra-gun rahn), which means that if you have a problem you need to bring it to the store. The store may still use the authorized service center, or it may not, either way it will get fixed. Generally, the store warranty ones will be cheaper, sometimes by quite a lot, since the authorized distributor may impose some very unreasonable prices on the products. Generally, for a DSLR, I don't care much about the warranty, since if it works, it will keep on working for at least a year, usually many years, before any major problems surface, so a single year's warranty is to me practically useless.

Fotofile's advertised prices on the web aren't that good, as many places have the same things for cheaper. You *can* haggle, and they have a good selection, with knowledgeable staff.
