A former prisoner named Chaovalit, who escaped from a hospital in Nakhon Si Thammarat last October, then hid in mountains to evade police,  is believed to have fled to Indonesia.

Thai authorities say they are confident of finding and returning Chaovalit through extradition proceedings.

 

The cabinet looks set to grant all provincial governors authority similar to that of a company CEO, as part of the government's decentralisation program. 

Governors will be allowed to conduct performance appraisals of executive senior civil servants, raise salaries, offer rewards and take disciplinary action, however the opposition Move Forward Party and some critics, expressed concerns whether the claimed decentralisation policy comply’s with more widely with accepted international definitions. 

 

Prime minister Thavisin asked the army to beef up forces to combat drug smuggling along the Myanmar border and to deal with unrest in the South.

He also encouraged  the military to help to citizens during times of flood or drought, adding I want to see a closer relationship between the army and local residents," 

 

Natapanu Nopakun, who became a familiar face and voice presenting almost daily updates in English during the covid crisis has passed away after an illness, no further details were available, Khun Natapanu was 45 and a senior diplomat with experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy.
