Thai Interior Minister Orders Stricter Age Checks at Bars and Clubs

National — Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul issued a stern warning to entertainment venues caught lax on age verification during today’s press conference at the Government House.

The warning comes in response to a viral story of a Thai boxing Olympic medallist, Somluck Kamsing, who was accused of attempted rape, in connection with a sexual entanglement with a 17-year-old girl.

The girl in the case reportedly gained access to a nightclub using a picture of a fake ID card and met with Mr. Somluck. She later filed a complaint with police, accusing the former Muay Thai fighter turned boxer, of sexual assault, after Mr. Somluck allegedly took her to a hotel. Mr. Somluck denied all allegations.

Mr. Anutin on December 14th said it is important for nighttime businesses to maintain strict adherence to age verification protocols. He urged venue operators to ensure that patrons don’t use fake ID cards or those belong to their older peers to stealthily enter nightclubs.

In the land of fakes, spotting a fake ID card might be somewhat challenging. What are the bar owners supposed to do ?

Any ideas Anutin ? No ?

Urged venue operators to obey laws?

Laughable.

I have not had a licence check in a number of years here!

Are the older peers those who produce purple samples?

I had 2 a week on average till I stopped going to the Ambassador. Now I go into Pattaya three times every week and NEVER see ONE COP.  Returning to cross Railway Road during rush hour is a nightmare, crying out for police control.

Driving is getting worse and worse in Pattaya, and nowadays one hears horn beeping and sees many without helmets on bikes. This is all lack of policing.... used to be you could never stop at 2nd/Klang junction without a little guy in brown jumping out from behind his box. I had a falang who said he was a volunteer with the traffic police tell me there was some legal challenge and they had stopped issuing tickets.....

This time of year they used to be out in force filling the coffers for the NYE police party!
