Just today I activated my ADSL True internet connection.

Very pleased with the speed (on average 200 KB download, Yes KB) and service from the helpdesk.

I have the 1050 promotion package and very happy.

Pages show almost instantly and downloads like windows update go smooth and fast.

Anyone here having the same?

Every time I boot my computer up some program or another needs an update....and that's after my two anti virus programs have done theirs. It's becoming a real pain. I wonder how most folk in Thailand cope with the generally lousy internet service in the country :o Most of the available bandwidth is needed just to keep a PC on track.

Did you try Hitmanpro?

Just go Hitmanpro.nl or com and get rid of all the shi* on your PC.

One of your two Anti-Virus programs (maybe both) slows down your system "very well"!

Using TRUE 2.560 kbps and getting Downloads with 200 kByte/s and more every day! Cost per month 1,150 + 7%! Nothing to complain here!

My comments were just a rant about the number updates that programs now request - and the frequency of which they do it. I accept that having 2 Anti Virus programs running will slow my PC...I'll live with that.

Just down and install Hitman pro. no virus or spy/malware will ever install on your system.

Make sure you activate safesearch

There is not only no need to run two antivirus programs but they won't work properly while fighting each other. This is why nobody ever recommends running two antiviruses at once. It's not like putting two locks on the same door, it's like putting two doors on the same hinge.

Uninstall one of them (whichever is the worst) and just run a single AV, and once in a while disable it and run an online virus scan to double check it.

Hitman Pro is an antispyware bundle. It is useless against viruses.

It's also overkill in the extreme for antispyware, and it just caters to people's fears.

Reduce the insane number of "anti-whatever" programs in your system, and you'll reduce the amount of time needed to keep it updated. I have only two things that need updating, Windows itself and the antivirus program.

True sometimes works well, sometimes not. It's a typical situation.

Are these numbers good? I am not sure what they mean exactly but I can surf the net fairly fast, atleast I think it's fast

Makes a big difference if you're downloading from Intra-Thai sites as opposed to Inter-Thai. Also, I've noticed this happen on several occassions with True, whenever anyone starts up their connection, it really flies....however it seems to consistently slow down (in the case of several friends/colleagues) after about a week or so.

As I suspected more people that dont know the difference between kbps and KBps !! Bits and Bytes folks.. get it right !!

200 kbps is pretty pathetic !! Thats only about 25 kBps !!

I would love to see an international speed test proof of true 1000 baht service giving 200 kBps which is +- 1600 kbps

If your happy with 25kBps (200 kbps) then you might not end up too frustrated in Thailand.. I am fed up with +-800kbps.. In the UK my brother tested a line to almost 20,000kbps !! thats 20 mbps.. Seem some places in the world with 40gbps to the home.. 40 giga bits per second.. Thats 20,000 times faster that 200 kbps measured above !!

Rather than immerse yourself in indignation, install the IE Tab plugin in Firefox.

Taaaaaaadaaaaaaaaaa.

How did you copy that screen?

Hit the "Prt Scrn" key, then open a new blank image in photoshop, paint, or similar and paste it into that.

I've said it many times, True can be very hit and miss. Sometimes you get a good locale, sometimes you don't. There can be EXTREME variations between different places, and it's not because of the "distance to the CO", since the local speeds are not affected (and will run at full speed). I've seen two sites, with the exact same True ADSL package, just a scant few kilometers apart, which get the extremes of service. One gets VERY good service, around 80-90% international speed (full local, of course), while the other gets 10-20% international speed (again, full local speeds).

As for proof of True getting 2mbits for the 2.5mbit 1,250 baht/month package, here's my result. Tested on monday, 1 pm.

At Speakeasy (Seattle, WA site):

At Mcafee:

post-9650-1185171276_thumb.jpg

This is not a constant. It fluctuates, depending on time of day, the day of the year, the tide, the phase of the moon, sunspots, the temperament of the ISP, etc. etc. etc. It is also in no way an indication of the speeds of any protocol other than http (certain P2P protocols are HORRIBLE) to any other location other than the location of the speed test servers.

But, it is proof that you can indeed get more than 2mbits internationally on a 2.5mbit True ADSL 1,250/month line.

tx for sharing the happy news :o

I have noticed that my TOT line these days gets the advertised 1000kbps consistently (outside peak hours). it used to be 400 or 500 before. international of course, i don't even know any thai-hosted websites...

yes, inside peak hours eg from noon - 1800 it goes down quite a bit...
