Thaksin Won’t Be Held In Police Custody Upon Release On Parole: Lawyer

DE FACTO PHEU THAI BOSS-cum-convict at large Thaksin Shinawatra will legally be free of police custody upon his being released on parole later this month, said a prominent lawyer today (Feb.7).

According to Narinpong Jinapuck, head of the Lawyers Association of Thailand, the “untouchable” Thaksin is legally obliged to return home upon release on parole, speculated on Feb.18, and to not leave the country whilst he will still be legally considered a “convict”, albeit practically at large, as long as his one-year jail sentence, scheduled to end in August, is valid.

A likely whereabouts for the billionaire, politically powerful Thaksin to stay after release on parole is his Chan Song Lah residence on the Thonburi side of the capital city.

Neither can the police or public prosecutors hold the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict in custody anywhere pending a planned questioning of him on charge of violating the lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, with verbal statements which he had made during his self-exile abroad, according to the association head.

This was all planned in advance. By selling out his party to the foul army, he assured himself a safe return without the encumbrance of jail time. His supporters and the Thai people were thrown under

Of course he won't be held. It was said that the whole thing was negotiated in advance. He would come home but wouldn't do time.

No wind in the sales, just showtime for the soap opera

This is a non story.

As far as I am aware 'Police Custody' means incarcerated in the cells at police station.

The only time people on parole are placed in police custody is when they break the terms of their parole

Let's wait and see what will happen. The story is not yet over.

How smooth things go in a chaotic country when you have VERY powerful friends.

What are the odds he is out and about perfectly healthy by late Feb.

Pathetic how this person can manipulate the police and procedures even as a convict. This should set a precedence to others who are not filthy rich. I would really like to see other people get the same type of treatment this man is getting.

Stay safe Mr T.

Must be so pleased he didn't get done for illegally picking mushrooms.

This was all planned in advance. By selling out his party to the foul army, he assured himself a safe return without the encumbrance of jail time. His supporters and the Thai people were thrown under the bus, and Pita was forsaken. The will of the people meant nothing.

Thailand needs to figure out a way to get rid of the horrific influence of the army and the corrupt powers that hold it back.

Progress appears to be the ultimate enemy.

Congrats Thaksin,🙏 congrats Thailand🙏

Their we have it. Not one night in a cell & nobody arguing. Then again, if you have enough money, you can also become the president of the USA.

I don't think that is the correct meaning of the word cum, but could be in his case. 1 year jail sentence what l think that translates to in English is hospital stay, and good to see good to see no bias or prejudice in the Thai "JUSTICE" system. Amazing Thailand

Thailand showing its true colours yet again.

Actions speak louder than words.

Well, if "conversion wonders" like i.e. the miraculous "baking flour into illegal substance" has no impact on politicability in Thailand .......

Did any one think he actually would? Question now is he has been too sick to return to prison (hardly a return i know after spending just a few hours there) when he is given parole will he suddenly be miraculously cured and no longer need to remain in hospital? Total farce from start to finish and despite every politicians promise that just is for all not just the wealthy and those politicaly connected

You can tell its gotten bad in Thailand now, people have simply conceded that T.I.T and nothing will ever change and whats the point in protesting, they had a glimmer of light when the elections saw the move forward party won but was quickly stamped out. They would rather make concessions to Thaksin to guarantee his freedom (was public enemy number 1) rather than concede to change

Interesting. Many posters can't see the sarcasm. Must be disturbing.

So, here for those: it's SARCASM. 👍

....... and what happened to his anti Royal comments made a few years ago ?  ...under the carpet no doubt !

The whole saga is like a cooking show. We’ve known from the beginning what the final dish is; we’re now just watching how it’s done.

Rather different treatment from just about anybody else suspected of committing lese majeste, they're usually locked away in the nearest prison as soon as the fuzz get their hands on them.

Yes, after two emergency operation for life threatening ailments, and months of a difficult, touch and go recuperation process, it's a miracle he is still alive. A godsend for Siam as he is the only one who has the capabilities to fix the nation' s problem.

Just a lot more hilarious than a cooking show, almost as entertaining as the orange Jesus show across the Pacific. Politics has never been as entertaining as it is now.
