IMMIGRATION Bureau police today (Feb. 9) arrested a Russian man wanted in his home country on a drug charge after hiding in Thailand by overstaying his visa for more than 10 years, TV Channel 7 said.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Phanthana Nuchanart, deputy chief of the Immigration Bureau, said the Chonburi office team was tipped off that the unidentified 34-year-old Russian man was behaving suspiciously.

An investigation revealed that not only has he overstayed in Thailand he is also wanted by the Russian authorities on a drug charge with Interpol having issued a Red Notice for his arrest.

Overstaying 10 years what is going on with immigration 😱

The Russian must have friends in the right places 💰

Or Immigration has no real system to alert them to people who are on overstay.

So the 90 day report system didn't work?

Another case where an arrest had nothing to do with police investigation and everything to do with a grass.

You mean Thailand and Ukraine, right ?

Drug and rape related convicts were not allowed to join this program. Now this program is shut, so the only possible  next destination for him is jail for several years.

About the same as with immigration in your home country, where most likely many more are overstaying

In my country they are not necessary illegal, but get Asylum after a criminal conviction anyway!

Amazing the youth of today.  Arriving at age 24.

“Self supporting”” for 10 years.  No doubt in whatever means possible.

.

When I was his age I was too busy in a career, building equity, accumulating investments to even think about moving to Thailand.

And now I reap the benefits.  Wouldn’t change a thing.
