They also sent an email asking for the following in addition to the documents requested on the e-visa website;

  • Other request documents: - Flight details showing the applicant’s name, departure date, all flights en route from UK/Ireland/UK territories to Thailand

I've previously used passport page to satisfy this particular request when applying for SETV.

Just helped a friend in the UK get a Non-O single entry marriage visa. Simply upload a copy of bank statement where they asked for residence. Misleadingly, they ask for bank statement with £10,000 or high monthly amount in the funds section. Just simply uploaded a bank statement there with less than £2,000 balance. His evisa was issued within 3 days no further documents asked for other than passport and marriage certificate. They could clarify the requirements which would avoid any confusion.

No - passport is the most significant document regarding right of abode.

Question is there mainly for non UK nationals, they have the right to apply if they have legal residence.

Many get mixed up over the word residence, legal residence has nothing to do with your address.

This is how it is worded in the e-visa notes for HK.

  • Confirmation of legal residence, in the context of the Hong Kong SAR, generally refers to (a) Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card (“A” HKID); (b) Hong Kong Identity Card indicating right to land (“R” HKID) or unconditional stay permit (“U” HKID); or (c) valid stay permit issued by Hong Kong Immigration (for “C” HKID holders).

Indeed.  Let's hope that doesn't apply to the fine folks at the Embassy.....from their website;

  1. Document that can verify applicant's current residency (Applicant must apply for e-Visa via specific Embassy/Consulate conforming with his/her consular jurisdiction and residency.)

        - Applicants are requested to submit their local utility bills eg. electricity bill/ gas / mobile phone / rental agreement, pension statement.

Indeed, highlights the the situation in the UK. Anyone that does not have legal residence in the UK shouldn't be able to have a utility bill, rent or have a pension. Mobile phone is the dubious one.

A UK passport certainly takes away any doubt.
