some particulars on the case reported now...

Man hunted for murder

Police in Thailand are hunting a Sydney man believed to be behind the execution-style murder of a major Sydney drug trafficker. Franco Michael Penza, 24, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with murdering former drug baron Christian Minotte.

Yesterday, police publicly appealed for information on the whereabouts of Joshua Joseph Dimaria, 23, who is also wanted for questioning about the April 2006 slaying.

The hunt for Dimaria has gone global, with detectives from the State Crime Command's homicide squad liaising with their international counterparts as they try to track him down after it was revealed Dimaria was last seen in Bangkok in November 2006.

Penza, who police arrested in Lithgow late last week, faced one charge of murder in Penrith Local Court last Wednesday. He did not apply for bail during his short appearance. His case was adjourned to Liverpool Local Court on July 26. Police will allege that Penza, a relative of the victim, went to Minotte's Mt Pritchard house to steal money.

Minotte was sentenced to 10 years jail in 1993 for importing cocaine from Columbia. He was found lying in the backyard of his house about 7am on Monday, April 17, 2006 - he died from a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.

When police arrived at the house after his murder they found it emptied of cash. No drugs were found on the premises, police confirmed last night.

Minotte become one of Long Bay's more infamous inmates when he staged a "Houdini-like escape" on January 22, 1996, leaving the door of his Long Bay cell still locked and the bars uncut.

It appeared at the time that Minotte "somehow stole a key and let himself out". Police said they were continuing their inquiries into Minotte's death.

Anyone with information that might assist investigators is urged to contact police on 9725 8999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

when you look for somebody you release rather passport kind of picture, so the face is clearly seen, as well as the particulars of the person: hight, eye colour, weight, special marks (tatues, birth marks, moles, scars etc).

looks like the search campaing is amatourish

They only release passport photos as that's normally all the authorities have, this is more natural, and stands a far better chance of aprehension because of it. I'll make sure it's posted on the TP notice board up here tomorrow SRJ, unless they are aware of it already.

On a serious note; When I was in Thailand in April I believe I may have seen the main suspect of a different case,..the one involving the Japanese guy who murdered the British english teacher, of course I could be mistaken, but I was staying in the Apex hotel a few days and on first trip to swimming pool I was aware of two surly japanese guys with faces of distain when I joined them in the pool,I remembered that for a couple of days and it wasn't until I changed hotels a few days later that I saw BBC WORLD NEWS that showed a photo of this guy who was a dead ringer of the guy in the swimming pool....well as I said I could be wrong but to me it sort of makes sense....but I have taken this opportunity to post this info....of course if any one wants to check this info out or pass it on for checking please feel free to contact me.

yes jim,..I have sent this info to the mentioned website. It appears he did a run on 25 march well I checked my passport and times and it works out I was there 26 march when I beleive I saw him....there were two guys who looked and sounded japanese and when I,ve just looked at his photo again I sort of get shivers and flashback and the two connect!I remember thinking they looked to me as if they too had just arrived and they were a bit scruffy and wearing hats that were inapropriate for the hot weather.

The police might want to check all the schools. It seems these guys usually end up teaching English somewhere! (Yes, I am only joking)!

just an update of my email to the family of murdered english female in japan;......when I read the info on the above mentioned website another thing came back to me ,....which is that while approaching the swimming pool the odd thing that struck me was how black and dirty this young japanese chaps feet were,....as he and his friend were just sitting on chairs by the pool with their dirty feet dangling into the pool,....and when I looked at the parents of the murdered girls website it said the suspect had fled without any foot wear,.....also after looking into my passport and calculating which day I arrived at the apex hotel it coincided with the day that this guy had fled....and I remember thinking that these two japanese guys had just arrived and were inapropriately dressed wearing woollen hats and stuff....I cannot remember clearly where I was when I first saw the BBC news Item on the murder but I said to my wife that looks excactly like the young japanese guy who were sitting by the pool on my first day at the apex,.....and for one reason or another ,or the likelyhood of making a fool of myself I did not do anything further ,....but it was probably because we were in the process of trying to find better accomodation as the apex unfortunately has turned into a bit of a dump.....but honestly after looking at their website yesterday the face of this guy is the face of the chap I saw beside the pool.

sheesh... with a renewed news search.... have this now:

Wanted man sighted back in Australia

Fugutive Joshua Dimaria has slipped back into Australia, authorities said today, after a recent sighting in Sydney's southwest. Dimaria, 23, from Cabramatta, has been on the run since the execution-style murder of a former Sydney drug trafficker in April last year.

A sighting in Bangkok, Thailand, sparked a global search in November but the NSW Police Force said today Dimaria had returned to Australia and was likely to be using fake identification.

"Police have been liaising with their international counterparts as they try to locate him," police said in a statement.

"Investigators have now received fresh information that Dimaria has returned to Australia. "He was spotted in Georges Hall, in Sydney's southwest, late last month (and) it is believed he is using false identification to avoid arrest."

Dimaria, the subject of an outstanding arrest warrant, is wanted for questioning over the murder of former drug baron Christian Minotte.

Another man, 24-year-old Franco Michael Penza, is facing a murder charge in relation to Minotte's death.

Minotte was jailed for 10 years in 1993 for importing cocaine from Columbia. He was found lying in the backyard of his house on April 17 last year with a single gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Police today released a series of photographs of Dimaria, and anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to make contact with Cabramatta police on (02) 9725 8999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
