Hot Sauce Shortage!

Featured Replies

 Some Americans will understand:

No Tabasco in stock.

Crystal not available anymore.

Franks Hot Sauce may be running low but is still on Tops online.

Louisiana Hot Sauce may be running low but is still on Tops online.

There are a few overpriced sellers on Lazada and Shopee.

Reminds me of the Great Refried Beans Fiasco of 2009 when Villa arbitrarily decided that Casa Fiesta refried beans needed to triple in price overnight before coming to their senses a few months later.

Out of stock at Gourmet Market at Paragon.

I'm not actually looking for it.  Tabasco is not my favorite.  I just noted recently that it was out of stock everywhere I went.

I cook a lot of Tex-Mex.

So easy to make

I made a big batch about a month ago. Look for recipe on Youtube

Can you still get refried beans? Haven't seen them on the shelves at Foodland for years.

Old thread, but on 20 October 2025 Tops has Cholula buy one get one free for the best hot sauce sold in Thailand and at a very reasonable price. Hope it's not the end of the line for it.

Yes. There's a selection of a few at Villa but pretty expensive. I just cook my own these days.

No complaints.  They can charge what they want.

How much do Casa Fiesta refried pinto beans cost in the USA compared to Thailand at Villa Market? In dollars.

Here are the price comparisons for Casa Fiesta refried beans:

  • In the U.S.: about US $1.39 for a 16 oz can. Bashas'+2Food Town+2

  • At Villa Market in Thailand: ฿135 for the 454 g (~16 oz) can. Villa Market+1

    • With current exchange rate (~฿32.75 per US $1) Xe+1 this converts to about US $4.12 (135 ÷ 32.75 ≈ 4.12).

So:

  • U.S. price ≈ US $1.39

  • Thailand (Villa Market) price ≈ US $4.12

Super easy to make refried beans on your own. A little bacon fat and pintos plus what seasonings you like and they are done. I use my potato mashes as I dont like them pureed.

I haven't been to Villa for years precisely because they are so overpriced for US goods. I'm not paying $4 for a can of refried beans. I'm even making substitutes on salsa, which is now going for the equivalent of over $6 for a small jar. That's Mission or Old El Paso. Even jars of jalapenos are up--El Sabor just jumped from 129 baht/small jar to 155 baht.

El Sapo is pretty good. Made here and there are also some locally made salsas sold on Lazada and Shopee that are good.

Just ordered some for delivery. Three times as much salsa for less than half the price. And it's available in "hot."

Received my order and tried it. Very nice salsa. Best I've had since I've been in Thailand. Used to live on the 38oz jars of Pace Picante sauce--would go through a jar a week.
