Bangkok TukTuks, Taxis Defy Parking Rules, Frustrate Bus Riders

BANGKOK: — Tricycle taxis near Bangkok's Big C and Central World shopping centers continue to flout parking regulations by illegally occupying bus stops.

This creates significant difficulties for bus passengers who struggle to board and disembark. Despite occasional police crackdowns, the taxis brazenly return to the prohibited zones as soon as officers leave the area.

The situation persists even with the implementation of the "Rajprasong Model," an AI-powered traffic violation system. This system uses cameras to detect illegally parked vehicles and issue fines. However, it appears to have had little effect in deterring the tricycle taxi drivers, highlighting a need for more effective enforcement.

Frustrated bus commuters are calling for stricter measures to address the ongoing issue, which disrupts public transportation and creates inconvenience for passengers.

It doesn't help getting an AI to issue the tickets, the Tuk Tuk & Taxi drivers still won't pay the fines.  There doesn't seem to be any consequence for breaking the laws or not paying fines, so until the police actually start doing their jobs, nothing will change.

I suspect the police response is along the lines of "What's in it for us?"

Police do your job.

No 'crackdowns" would be needed if the "police" performed their minimal expected duties of "law enforcement". Sheesh...

I’ve said many times in similar threads.. You start with education (some may legitimately not know XYZ is against the law), step 2 is light enforcement (ie basic fines), step 3 is “the hammer” - you seize, confiscate forfeit to the “state” the vehicles and auction it off with proceeds to the state, of repeat offenders

same for repeat offenders of illegal clubs, gambling venues and drunk drivers ..

you seize and forfeit any assets used in the commission or derived from the crime in question.

Once you start seizing and auctioning off tuk tuks of repeat offenders I’m sure you’ll see some meaningful change.

I parked in a bus zone ,yellow curb marks, ran in the store for about one minute came out and I was clamped in Udon Thani cost me 400 baht.
