Sounds like you are using a wireless 802.11b which is 11 Mpbs but only between machines or machine and wireless router. The download/upload speeds will be those from the modem to the outside world and will depend on the ISP package you have.

Wireless-B won't even be 11Mbps, unless your antennas are perfect, you're right next to the access point, there is zero interference, the planets are aligned, the earth's magnetic field is in perfect configuration, and hel_l ans frozen over. Normally you'd get somewhere around 1-5 mbits.

Firefoxx you forget to say, and if nobody in a range of +/-2 kilometer is using his microwave oven. A standard microwave oven works on the same frequency as the wireless network. And with cheaper microwave oven on the market they are not that shielded as they where a few years ago.

The reason I said 802.11b is it's the only ethernet standard that I know that is 11Mpbs, the wired being 10/100/1000 Mbps and 802.11g is 54Mbps so it looked suspect to me. Of course if he meant 10 and is connected to an ADSL modem via ethernet line then it will indicate 10Mbps between computer and modem. It isn't the first time this misunderstanding has popped up on the board where a member sees 10 or 100Mpbs link speed and wondered why his download/uploads are so much slower. :o

So if my speedtest results are 253 kb/s download and 92 kb/s upload...is this just ridiculous?! Please explain :o I'm on satellite connection with no clue obviously!!

"How fast is satellite Internet connection?

Most users can expect download speeds of up to 500Kbps (usually 200Kbps - 400Kbps) and upload speeds around 50Kbps. While this is slower than many cable and DSL connections, it's about 10 times faster than standard dial-up connection. "
