10 yrs ago had a partly torn meniskus. Bumrungrad quoted 250K. My overseas insurer declined as it wld be cheaper in Europe. Got 2nd opinion in Singapore & was told not to operate as I wld gain nothing but likely have more problems. Got recommended physiotherapy. Never had the op done, walk painfree, cycle, swim. 2nd opinion pays.

You never get symptoms now? very rarely the meniscus gets caught in the joint, problem is you don't know when it will free itself, sometimes minutes, yesterday 1 day. Maybe 1-3 times every few years

I did some research on this and they say post-surgery complications like chronic pain are very common

I just booked an operation date to fix my hernia at a government hospital. One night stay inclusive, open surgery 13,000 Baht. My wife phoned Bangkok Hospital. Open surgery 180,000 Baht. Laparoscopic

After 4 attempts to repair and which I believed to be a routine operation I am looking at the the possibility of going back to the UK. I am sure it will be more than a year to sort out. I am hoping for a good outcome when I go back next week and the Dr as seen the result of the scan.

All the best fella

Question: are there non-mesh hernia surgeons in Thailand? Any surgeon can do a non-mesh repair in special cases, but I'm asking for specialists who actually offer it as the main option. I assume the Desarda repair would be the choice since this is in proximity to India where it's common.

To be clear, not here to discuss pros/cons as this is a complex subject, just want to know about anyone practicing it, specifically in BKK.

In Issan area I would recommend KKU hospital (Srinagarind) over Korat hospital.  You actually have no need of a referral letter to go anywhere since as a foreigner you have to pay regardless of where you go.  So not an issue to go to KKU rather than where referred. Try to see Prof. Chalerm Eurboonyanun there.

I had a mesh inserted in a hernia some 16+ years ago. Since then I've been uncomfortable at times and just assumed it was all part and parcel of a mesh hernia repair. Lately things have become more noticeable painful wise in the hernia area.

Today I went to the local government hospital where I had the operation done. The surgeons there didn't seem too happy doing an examination but they did. They've now given me a referral letter to go to Korat. They didn't exactly say why. I'm assuming it's the 'mesh'. Has anyone had a hernia mesh repair operation done and can it be done? If I have to live with the discomfort then so be it. But just a a side thing. The doctor asked my wife where I'm from. She told him England and he said 'why don't you take him there'? I have no idea as to his meaning.
