Around 1,000 Myanmar refugees asked for assistance to  return to their homes yesterday after some 3,000 fled fighting in Mya-waddy and crossed into Mae Sot.

Almost half were women, the elderly - and young children, many had suffered from heat exhaustion.  others were fearful of theft of their household belongings, this group of people were assisted onto rafts and returned to Mya-waddy late yesterday, others were expected to return today.

 

The department of energy says it  is working to restructure the oil price system so that local retail prices could be set by the government without referring to global prices.

 

Adding Its system that no one has tried to improve.  Retail diesel prices are rising because of increasing excise tax, which is decided by an Oil Fuel Fund committee, not by the government.  Currently, oil distributors set their retail prices based on Singapore’s reference prices and their costs. “In a proposed new bill, the government will have the power to set retail prices.

A ceremony took place yesterday to mark the 30th anniversary of the first Thai Lao friendship bridge. The event was attended by political figures and diplomats.

Thailand and Laos are planning  to construct a new railway bridge alongside the current bridge.
