July 26, 200718 yr Hi, I have received two reports that the Nong Khai Immigration Office has started telling Visa holders that they must report IN PERSON when doing their 90 day reporting from now on, and that submissions by post will no longer be acceptable. I have also been told MANY incidences (and experienced one or two myself) where Nong Khai seem difficult to deal with and variable in their rule and requirement interpretations. I live in Khon Kaen and have no desire to suddenly go on a 3 hours train journey to Nong Khai just to confirm where I live EVERY 90 days. I am told other offices have no problems with post notification. I have two questions: 1) Are there any rules that say I must use Nong Khai or am I free to report to any Immigration Office in Thailand that I choose. Korat immigration is only slightly further from Khon Kaen than Nong Khai and I am told much easier to reach and find. 2) I obtained my first Retirement Visa 11 months ago at the Udon Thani sub office of Nong Khai (just closed again) and I have reported by post to Nong Khai since then. I am due to apply for my "renewal" Retirement Visa in August. Is there ANY reason why I cannot apply at a different Office? Korat would seem my logical choice as I understand it is the capital of the Isaan Region, and then ideal for me to submit my 90 reporting by post to Korat (I am informed they, like Bangkok, still have no problems with postal reporting (to be honest neither had Nong Khai until these latest comments coming out of their office). Does anybody know the Visa application office hours for the Korat Immigration Office please. Regards, Dave

As usual your replies are helpful and precise and just what I needed to know. Many have helped me with different Visa queries during the last year and a half, but nobody more than yourself and I am sure your answers to me have also enlightened many others in similar positions. I thank you very much for your ongoing helpful and friendly assistance. I have learnt learn much from the replies you and other members have made to other enquiries. I am so grateful this Forum exists. It must have helped 1000s of visitors, Visa holders and "long term stayers" in Thailand over the years. Kindest Regards, Dave
August 1, 200718 yr I don’t know where the OP got his information from but I received my receipt BY POST this morning from Nong Khai, there was no indication that I had done the wrong thing. In fact they enclosed a blank TM47 for the next report.

If you ask at the Nong Khai office (or sometimes if there for other reasons eg Visa renewal) they seem to be telling that you 90 day reporting must in future be in person. If you do NOT ask and continue Postal reporting (as before) then continue to do so as well, without remark Over the last week I have friends who have actually specifically asked about future 90 reporting whilst at the Nong Khai office on other business, and they were definitely told 90 reporting in person in future. Inconsistency and confusion as is often the case , with Thailand Visa issues regretfully. I'm switching to Korat as I am told they are more consistent (which is all I ask for). I sent off a 90 report yesterday to them as I have just moved address. I will be travelling there in about 7 to 10 days with my "Retirement" Visa renewal application (x fingers ) Kind Regards, Dave

I don't get a back slapping welcome on my visits but I've noticed they've been getting easier over the years. At least I no longer feel like a criminal and I even thought I saw a smile on one of the officers recently. I do believe they have a degree of leniency when dealing with renewals. Build up a track record with one office and don't listen to 'advise.'

Build up a track record with one office and don't listen to 'advise.' Hi tahaan, Reasonable advice, but as I said earlier I have only ever dealt with Udon Thai for my actual Visa (and once only) It was not a pleasant experience (extra requirements to those reported as needs and very rude) . I do not seek "back slapping NOR easy interpretations on processing of my Visas. just that I know what is needed before I go, and IF I have all as required and in the correct format that my Visa approval should be a formality. I know I have what should be need and in the correct format. What I do not know is what Nong Khai itself wants at this moment in time. Emails in the past asking were never answered and to be honest I have given up trying many months ago. Admittedly, my 90 postal reporting has always gone to Nong Khai without a hitch . Every friend I know that goes to Nong Khai comes back with a different requirement story leaving me totally confused as to what they do really want. Having no real history with Nong Khai having never visited it seems reasonable to try Korat who are being reported as "being consistent with the rules we all seem to believe are what is really needed in most cases. I have NO axe to grind with Nong Khai and I am sure they are just trying to do their job, but nor do I wish a 3 hour journey to find out which one of my friends report's (following their visit) is correct for my day of visit and risk further journeys if I guess wrong. (I don't wish to get NEW Embassy or new doctors certificate (which according to the current official regulations are unnecessary). Additionally, I have never been to Nong Khai Immigration Office yet, so I have not built up a rapore with the office or Officers but I agree with your comment about this. I'm also happy to have a look around Korat as I have never visited before, whereas I have visited Nong Khai several times when I was obtaining 30 passes whilst collecting and translating my documents needed for my Retirement Visa application. Maybe Korat will prove similar to reports about Nong Khai - I do not know. All I know is I am doing my best to apply with all my documents as they should be. I admit I am not getting a new doctor cert as I feel this should not be needed according to the Police Order last October (published on this forum), BUT I am trying to get a New Embassy letter ( despite that fact my original help should be OK). I do my best, my manner is friendly and respectful (as is normal) and am not a trouble maker wishing to test the Offices or officers. Kind regards, Dave
November 16, 200718 yr Any updates to this situation? Anyone else getting receipts back from Nong Khai, after having reported by mail/post? I sent my own 90-day address report on October 25 (by EMS with self-addressed stamped envelope for the return receipt, as I have been doing for three years). Here, November 16, and no receipt yet. I'm getting a little nervous. I don't want to call for fear of showing up on their radar or being flagged. If, indeed, those who've traditionally reported by mail can continue to do so without problems, I want to remain part of that secret society. Appreciate any further feedback....
November 16, 200718 yr You can trace your EMS mail on the Thai Post web site. See if it was signed for and when. My last report to Immigration was sent at almost the same time and I had the receipt back in 4 days. With a blank TM47 and NO word that I had done the wrong thing as with my post earlier in the thread. That's two reports by post since this thread started.
