"Anyone feeling stupid yet?"  Not really.  Animals have been going extinct for millions of years.  Climate has been changing for millions of years.  Land masses have been moving (including up and down) for millions of years.  It's natural evolution.  It's just pure arrogance to think that driving electric cars, not using plastic bags, etc., etc. is going to save the earth.  The politicians have been using these environmental changes to push their agenda for years and the solution is always that we have to pay more money for this or that.  This whole environmental business is just that - a business and people/politicians are cashing in.  If hugging trees and driving electric cars make you feel better, that's your business.  I have no intention of kowtowing to the hype.

Once again . Blame it on the climate scam. Bangkok has been sinking and flooding for years.

 

During WW2, they were going to move to Phetchabun, but the war ended. They didn't come nor has the railway and the airport has no flights, so, perhaps they will have to become the next Amsterdam

I remember reading an article about the subsidence problem at least 50 years ago. Nothing has been done about it since.

And they just built all new government buildings a few years back.   Wait till they start falling apart before moving.

Unfortunately, the WEF seems to have relied upon an article in the Bangkok Post, which originated from AFP. Their quoted sources include someone from Greenpeace, a "climate expert" from Chulalongkorn University, and someone from the Bangkok Drainage Department. No-one who really understands the problems or the engineering. They do not even understand what happens when you fill in khlongs, or other low lying areas for building. As someone who has designed and constructed foundations for 50 years, including high rise buildings in Bangkok, there is no way that the weight of the buildings is causing measurable settlement. Most of the on-going surface settlement is due to past water extraction, and is loswing down as the water extraction has drastically reduced.

This is a fantastic idea, the more toxic, corrupt, heinous govt. officials that can be moved out of Bangkok, the better. Why not, it might ease a little bit of congestion, after all those self important guys are escorted by five or six police cars or motorbikes. They deserve one off duty cop, getting paid overtime, on a Honda 125. Go ahead and send them to Mukdahan. Or the moon. 

It would be easier and cheaper just to raise Bangkok by a meter or two, by injecting water deep underground.

This tiresome old gem again. Te NL has about 30-40% of Thailand's rainfall and it is pretty evenly spread throughout the year. ie. it is inconsequential.

Thailand gets about 2.5-3 times the NL's annual rainfall and it generally happens over 4-5 months with the rest being bone dry. In a bad month the NL may get 80mm of rain. Thailand can easily get more than that in a day! 

 

Dump Thailand's rain on the NL and see how their flooding is. Conversely, give Thailand and its infrastructure the NL's weather and you would never even step in a puddle.

Not saying the NL doesn't have good systems - they do. But compare apples with apples. Oh, and just waiting for someone to come along with the myth that Thailand rejected the NL's offer of expert help.

Well, if Bangkok has to be totally relocated, there is lots of land in the Khaio Yai area that is well above sea level.

  If the capital has to move again, then slowly move it somewhere well above the sea level.

  There are areas of Bangkok that are well more than a few meters above sea level, and yes the Chaopraya river still flows to the golf of Thailand.

I'm a denialist, and I have to admit, my last post about rising sea levels was wrong.   Now I've seen the Gulf in lower than last time, which I thought it was the lowest.

 

23+ years of coming to Gulf a couple times every year, at different times of the year;  Xmas/NY, Mar/Apr/May, Sept/Oct & June for HH Jazz Festivals, and this is the lowest I've seen.

 

Scientist can spew all the funded BS they want ... IMHO  

But my eyes sure are telling me a different story.   I know which one I believe.

Capital cities removed from large population centers are easier to control when citizens protest.  My guess would be some highly unpopular decrees are in the pipeline and our overlords are looking out for their own necks.

 

All the beach locations I have been to as a child all look the same now many decades later.

Reason number one is that Bangkok is sinking! It was and is built on the delta of the Chao Phraya River.

It is built on fluvial muddy soft sediments - not on solid rock!

Reason number two is that the delta is in reality a swamp area!

i.e. Suvarnabhumi Airport in Samut Prakan which is not only a swamp but also below sea level!!

Reason number three due to poor planing and enormous consumption, the Groundwater level is also lowering dramatically! This accelerates the sinking process of the entire city...

Reason number four is that the frequent inundations are caused because of the unscrupulous deforestation of tropical forests!!

The unscrupulous deforestation of the tropical forests is the major reason of floodings in all Thailand!

 

So please, again:

PUT POLITICIANS AT THE RIGHT PLACE WHERE THEY HAVE KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCE - This is actually a global problem in nearly every Country.
