I need some propane or LPG for a barbecue but it will just be a one off thing. I went to buy some and the woman spoke no English. Are you buying the actual tank when you go to these places, or is the money she was asking for go down as a deposit that will be returned when you bring the tank back.

For example I just needed a little tank and she was quoting me 1400 baht and I believe 190 for a gas refill. If I would have given her 1400 what happens when I come back with an empty tank? Do I get a deposit back?

I believe that's it how it's supposed to work but have never actually tried to return and empty tank and get money back. (ask for a receipt)

As its a one off  BBQ  why not just use some "olde worlde" charcoal ??

I made a mistake & bought a small tank for my BBQ....After it emptied I couldn't find anyone willing to refill an odd sized tank - when it would have been much easier to just exchange the standard sized tank....

I believe what you are buying is a tank & gas - that you can exchange for refilling....That seems to be how it works here versus the US where I have my RV tanks refilled each time....

Stay with the standard sized tanks....

I actually found that the size tank I insisted on turned out to be a pain in the a$s....
