Chiang Mai Authorities Seize Smuggled Meth after Chase

In Chiang Mai, 1.6 million methamphetamine tablets were confiscated by soldiers from fleeing drug dealers. One suspect was apprehended during the scramble in Fang district, which happened on Monday evening.

 

The Chaiyanuparb special unit soldiers had been dispatched to a border area in Fang after receiving information about a group of 5-6 suspected drug traffickers crossing from Myanmar.

 

A patrol noticed men with rucksacks moving through a lychee farm in Pha Kha village. At the edge of the plantation, the men met up with a pickup truck and a motorcyclist who were waiting for them.

 

The troops attempted to stop them for inspection, but the men hurriedly drove away. The local road checkpoints were then alerted by the patrol.

 

Despite gunshots being shot at them, the escaping men drove past one checkpoint. They were then pursued by the soldiers to Wat Huai Chanu's realms, where the suspects abandoned the vehicles and took off on foot.

 

One man was apprehended while 16 sacks carrying roughly 1.6 million meth tablets were confiscated, according to arresting officials. The police also seized a pickup truck, registered in Chiang Rai, and a motorcycle as potential evidence.

 

According to authorities, the street value of the seized drugs could reach up to 240 million baht.
