A nine year old girl is set to become a Chess Champion, which on both BBC and SKY news described it as a 'SPORT

 

Can we then include Draughts or Checkers to out USA friends, Snakes and Ladders, Ludo and Monopoly?

Surely a Sport should includes a moidcum of physical exersion and competition, the out come being influenced by the opponent.

Which rules out Darts & Golf. If I played a round with Seve Ballasteros, would win?

 

 

I would not be so hasty in  demeaning the complexity of the game of  Chess !

There was a time when Chess was used as a tool of Nationalistic competition during the Cold War era.

I am good friends with a Soviet survivor of that era who to this day teaches and encourages the intellectual strategies involved.
