In an important announcement today, former election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn revealed that the ratification of all 200 senators-designate is expected within the next week.

This statement came amidst delays attributed to numerous formal electoral complaints about potential irregularities, which has prompted a careful review by the Election Commission.

Somchai expressed urgency in completing the ratification process and emphasized the constitutional requirement for senators to maintain neutrality, free from political affiliations.

However, he voiced concerns regarding the independence of the elected senators, hinting at undisclosed meetings that suggest possible alliances with political parties.

The ratification delay, initially put off last Wednesday, was mainly to allow time for these allegations to be evaluated. Now, with a promised timeframe for resolution, the focus shifts to how these representatives will uphold their mandate to act impartially amidst the swirling rumours of political engagements.
