Sliding glass door does not close tightly. Is it normal?

I just got a so-called smart lock (digital) installed. But when closed there is a gap between the door and the jamb.
The installer said it was because the lock tongue needed room to "spread its wings".
Is this normal for digital locks?

I think that if you need help or advice with this, then you might try adding a clearer photo of the problem, or maybe several images.

Also, sometimes sliding glass doors do not completely close due to alignment problems, or maybe height-adjustment problems.
