In a major announcement at the Republican National Convention on July 15, 2024, former U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his vice-presidential running mate for the upcoming presidential election. This decision marks a significant turn in Vance's political alignment; the once staunch critic of Trump has now aligned himself with Trump's vision, underscoring a complete political transformation.

Trump, while addressing a massive crowd at the convention, expressed his confidence in Vance, citing his robust understanding of both governmental affairs and the business sector. "J.D. Vance is a fighter who embodies the spirit of the American people, and together, we will continue to make America great," Trump proclaimed.

Vance's political journey is notable, beginning with his well-documented disapproval of Trump during the 2016 elections, where he voiced concerns about Trump’s suitability for presidency. However, his perspective shifted notably after authoring the best-seller "Hillbilly Elegy," which catapulted him into the political spotlight and eventually led to his Senate run with Trump’s endorsement.

This strategic partnership could fortify Trump’s campaign, leveraging Vance’s appeal among the working-class voters in key swing states like Ohio. Furthermore, Vance's recent legislative focus on reducing foreign aid aligns with Trump’s "America First" ideology, potentially solidifying his appeal to Trump's base.

However, this announcement has stirred mixed reactions. While some admire Vance's pragmatic approach towards effective governance, others are wary of his pivot towards Trump's policies and sceptical about his transformation from a critic to a cornerstone of Trump’s campaign.

As the political landscape braces for the 2024 presidential race, the Trump-Vance ticket highlights a significant realignment in American politics, with potential implications for both the Republican Party's strategy and the national policy direction.

Not his very impressive life story, rising from Appalachian poverty to serve his country in the Marines and eventually graduate from Yale Law School Summa Cum Laude.  Nor his successful writing or career in the private sector. None of that matters. But he once said the "H" word in a private correspondence. THAT matters.

Come on, man.

You mean the assassin who donated to Joe Biden on the day of his inauguration, and also to a Democratic superPac? THAT 'republican would be assassin'?  Sure.

Come on, man.

So he’s bright enough to graduate Yale law school summa cum laude, so presumably his assessment of Trump was from that same high functioning brain.

Now he’s Trump’s running mate.

You might not think Vance getting into a campaign as running mate with a man he referred to as Hitler and what it tells us about Vance’s principles matters.

Opinions differ.

Biden's VP went from calling him a racist and hanging around with Klansmen to VP in record time. Care to comment?

If you are truly interested in why Vance went from anti Trump to a supporter, I suggest you do a bit of reading, a bit deeper than looking for cheap shots.

Really? Last I heard, he was in favour of leaving it up to the individual states. He has also in the past supported allowing abortion up to 15 weeks. So you are, as usual, wrong.

It’s very clear why he’s made the U-turn, he wants the power to rollout the Christo-fascism he’s steeped in.

What’s more difficult to understand is why Trump chose Vance, if indeed he did.

Vance appeals to the exact same rightwing extremists that Trump already has in the bag.

He brings nothing new other than a very good reason for women and people who do not want to live under Project 2025 to get out and vote blue.

Yeah, Vance is such a 'christo-fascist" that he married a Hindu woman.

You have a hard time giving up the aggressive and dangerous rhetoric of the left. All the labels you use simply showcase why so much political violence comes from the left.

Why does that preclude him supporting the Christo-fascist project?

Perhaps you could explain what you mean by "the Christo-fascist project", then we could assess.  I've never heard of it before.

I find that rather surprising so late in the campaign, but pleased to see you are willing to hear about it:

You still pushing the Project 2025 hokum? I'm surprised.  But the article never defined what is meant by Christo-fascism. Care to take another stab, preferable while using a non-leftist publication?
