With 60 Day Tourist Visa Application - Return Ticket Needed?

I would be grateful for advice on this matter. I want to get a six month or one year open return plane ticket. I notice that when you apply for a 60 day tourist visa at the Thai Embassy in London, UK, you are required to show air an ticket, but it does not mention/specify anything about on going travel, or return travel. It is not clear, but I have heard of people having problems if they do not show a return/on going ticket. The thing is, if you get an open retrun ticket and the the date of return is six month later (which is outside of 60 or 90 days) what would happen when you apply for visa at embassy in London?? Is it acceptable?? Does anyone have experienve of this, or able to advise. Thank you.

i believe you just give flight information, not a date back. ive done so 3 times in the bast iwth an open year ticket. Although it was not in england..
