Thailand businesses urged to adopt same-day delivery strategies

Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai urged Thai business operators to enhance their operating strategies to maintain a competitive edge.

He emphasised the necessity for continuous upgrades, pointing to the success of Chinese e-commerce giants like JD.com, TikTok (Douyin), TaoBao, and Meituan, which have thrived by offering same-day delivery services in certain regions.

Phumtham’s remarks came following a report from Oranuch Wannapinyo, Director of the Department of International Trade Promotion’s (DITP) office in Guangzhou. The report underscored the growing popularity of same-day delivery among Chinese consumers.

According to the DITP report, instant delivery has become the preferred method for 64% of users on Chinese e-commerce platforms. The shift in consumer behaviour, accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, now sees up to 75% of consumers favouring same-day delivery.

In response to this trend, Chinese platforms have diversified their delivery options to cater to consumer demands. Alibaba recently launched an instant delivery service on its e-commerce app TaoBao, alongside the courier service Ele. me. JD.com has introduced a nine-minute delivery guarantee with its JD Instant Delivery service. Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has also entered the market, with companies like Xiaomi Home joining the fast delivery campaign, said Phumtham.

“Thai business operators should study the strategies used by Chinese platforms, which could benefit small- and medium-sized enterprises.”

Recognising these shifts in the market, Phumtham believes that adopting similar strategies could help Thai businesses improve their competitiveness and customer satisfaction, reported Bangkok Post.

No No No.......This is a terrible idea....

This puts massive and incredible strain on delivery drivers and makes their lives miserable along with every one else in the supply chain....Plus it increases delivery costs....

What the heck most packages are delivered in 2-3 working days now....At a very reasonable cost.......

I can just see some demanding Hi-so customers having a fit over not getting their package in one day, then making many complaints and creating stress for all....

This one day delivery is just a all around bad idea....

I saw this in Korea .... requires hundreds of local warehouses, high pressure tactics with delivery drivers and massive funding from venture capital to make it work.

Not viable for a business that needs to make profits.

Many deliveries are now within a day or two, and cheap.

If people need/want something really urgent they can arrange with the shop instant delivery i.e. with one of the many motorcycle taxi riders.

Obviously that costs extra.

In Thailand Manyana prevails.

Amazon offers deliveries within the hour in France...so what's the big fuss in Thailand wanting to keep up ? Those who are sulking on the issue can go to Europe to protest and leave the Thais decide on how to optimise their online business....nothing worse then all those farangs all over comming to Thailand and trying to impose their western socialist ideas.

does this have anything to do with the apple commercial backlash?

9 min deliveries?  Sounds like more road deaths.

It is nice to get same day deliveries sometimes, 2 day on Amazon most times here in USA.  2.99$ for 4-7 am next day.

Potential delivery at 4am in the morning..........no thanks  (but yes for some it may be appropriate and or good to have the option)

And then Alibaba is cited as an example, which is laughable.
Recently I tried to order 200 10ml tubes of shaving cream there when I asked about the delivery charges for that, they wanted to charge USD 100 there and then I had to wait 6 weeks as well....

Good Morning 🙂

More Seretha pipe dreams !!!! 5555 🙂,

Meanwhile he can't even manage Canabis Industry with a projected sales net of over 2 Billion Baht in 2025 🙂 Government revenue Eienstien !!! 🙂 TIT !! 55555 🙂 I love Thailand its people and culture but like everywhere in the world I hate counter productive and lying and deceitful Politicians !!!!!

the world is constantly changing we have to keep up.

As long as all those search engines are less than accurate ......... it remains obvious, that the speed of delivery is not on the top position of the priorities. In general the delivery times are excellent and predictable but some money should be invested in more accurate search tools.

Sometimes the output is so completely off the goal, that it has a more than entertaining character 😉

Why not start by offering day to day delivery. I order most stuff from Lazada or Shopee, where delivery from Thai suppliers to greater Bangkok takes at least 2 days.

Have you lost the plot Minister ? There are enough accidents on the road now, we don't need any more speeding drivers and red light jumpers, honestly you have to question the sanity of all the Government Ministers, they can never think things through....:coffee1:

Yeah? This will cut into staff TikTok, fb, and games they play during work hours. It goes against Thai ethics, so “CAN NOT”. Next idea?

As it is, deliveries have become significantly faster than they used to be. I ordered 5 miscellaneous items on Lazada on Monday and 4 of them came the next day.

It has happened that I needed something the same day and wished I could just order it rather than going out shopping for it. Be nice to have the option, but that would likely mean price rises.

Nothing worse than someone suggesting that all farangs have socialist idealogies or that all socialist ideas are inherently bad.

thai post prime ?  where a letter takes a week to arrive a few km further?

That might be okay with Amazon where the goods come from a central location and they have a pretty sophisticated system.

However in Thailand many of the items advertised on sites such as Lazada come from individual  and often small companies not Lazada itself.

Ii can imagine someone living in Chiang Rai ordering an item located in Phuket and the cost of getting it delivered in one day.

Also in the example I have quoted the distance is approximately double the length of France

Thai post do a pretty good EMS one day delivery service and some post offices open on Sunday.

A few years ago I sent a package EMS on a Saturday morning and it was delivered 150kms away on a Sunday.
