The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) recently raided a car wash in Bangkok's Khlong Sam Wa district only to discover it was a disguise for a complex network illegally transmitting foreign football games.

 

This location was one of 21 across the country linked to the group. Astoundingly, the gang is believed to be operating over 100 fake accounts with over 1.2 billion baht in transactions.

 

The DSI reported the car wash was more than what it seemed on the surface. There was an intricate arrangement of computers and equipment within the premises which hinted at possible ties to online betting. Besides, the officials found evidence of marijuana farming, implying the network might also be involved in drug trading.

 

The network, suspected to consist of more than 30,000 members, is blamed for financial losses over 2.9 billion baht by illegally broadcasting football matches, including Euro 2024. Authorities have issued arrest orders for five main suspects, which include influential business leaders, politicians, and police authorities.

 

Two individuals, believed to be the network operators, were captured in Songkhla province and moved to DSI headquarters in Bangkok. They are facing accusations of infringing broadcast rights and money laundering.

 

The DSI is determined to further probe into the assumed online gambling linked to the network, and to find out whether the marijuana farming was officially authorized.
