Here, Sir, is just one more joke, which is actually a JOKE on the Parents of young girls and boys they bring to the USA.... They come to the USA for a better education for their smart and hard-working children. They think they will reap, for their children, an Ivy-League Education. But, they do not understand the real Trade-off. They are trading their children's Chinese heritage for a Big-Mac Future in a land which they do not fully understand. Their children will lose their native language; they will forget how to read and write Chinese, and the literature of China will cease to be available to them. Their children's Chinese heritage and roots will be replaced with a garbage-culture, since, for the first few generations they will never qualify to become a true part of The Establishment. This sad story is not a new one. The Italians from Italy have endured this, in the past, as we all know. And here, to commemorate this transition from immigrant to fully UPRIGHT citizen in the USA, I will link this song. Truly, the Chinese who come to America have one foot in two boats. I am sure that you have heard spoken this interesting yet descriptive idiom : Having one foot in two boats never provides peace of mind, and one perennially lives a life of conflict. I am sure that even SunZi, in his little book, The Art of War, must have written about this uncertain feeling... And how to resolve it, maybe..... Yes, and this is why, the song from The Godfather is so full of sadness for many immigrants to America.
