Frenchman arrested in Krabi for eight-year visa overstay

A Frenchman was arrested in Krabi after a visa overstay of eight years. The Frenchman, Didier, entered Thailand on February 19, 2016, with a tourist visa that expired on May 18, 2016. After the visa’s expiration, Didier continued to stay in Thailand, resulting in a total overstay of 3,032 days.

Police were alerted on September 9 when Police Lieutenant General Itthipol Ittisarnronnachai, along with other senior officials, ordered an inspection of foreign workers to enforce the Immigration Act of 1979 and other relevant laws. The primary objective was to ensure public safety and maintain social order for both residents and tourists.

Police Major General Songprod Sirisukha, along with his team, coordinated with the Krabi Immigration Office and local police to inspect accommodations and businesses employing foreigners. During these inspections, 65 year old Didier was found and questioned.

Didier recounted that he initially arrived in Thailand on a tourist visa and entered through the Sadao Immigration checkpoint. He met a Thai woman and stayed with her in Bangkok. However, after their relationship ended, Didier found himself without employment or income. In search of a friend, he travelled from Bangkok to Krabi.

Upon verification, Didier’s visa overstay was confirmed, he had remained in the country far beyond his permitted stay. The officials charged him with overstaying his visa and promptly transferred him to the Krabi City Police Station for further legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.

The operation was part of a broader initiative led by senior immigration officers, aimed at cracking down on illegal foreign workers and ensuring compliance with Thai law. The enforcement efforts are in line with the Royal Ordinance on the Management of Foreign Workers of 2017 and the 1999 Act on Alien Business Operations.

If a newly arrived immigrant who often does not speak the same language and most likely no college degree can steal your job, then what type of Job did you have ?

To overstay for eight years must have been laying low and minding his own business.  Eventually, trouble finds you with that lengthy of an overstay.    Bonne chance Didier.

Doctor or Engineer would be my guess.

As an agent can do the one year retirement visa without any money requirements, don't understand why falangs living in Thailand for many years, still obviously don't know.

I like to know like how do you do banging hard you find the place to stay they always ask me for my passport. I’m doing banking TIT.

I hope he can find a friend back in France. Go home Frenchie.

Illegal immigrants in America have taken the jobs that used to be worked by teenagers, elderly forced out of retirement, the working poor and various troubled people with family problems, mental disorders, drug addictions etc... because they work harder for less.

So you're basically dunking on the least fortunate people in society and kids trying to making a few bucks going through school. Are you proud of yourself?

At his age, he could have been enjoying a French pension netting between €1,200-1,400 per months.

I suspect the reason for his over-overstay is because he is wanted in France, has huge debts, or plenty of alimony & childcare expenses -or likely all of the above.

Yes put your face in the palms of your hands......it's over !

Look in the mirror. You're an immigrant, probably what your home country would call " an economic migrant",  in the East.

In my mind, overstays (over 6 months) should be treated as a ban from Thailand for every day that you overstayed PLUS a five year ban - in this guys case he would be banned for about 13 years.

Thailand 'currently' is a very easy place to stay for years, do abusers need a hard lesson

Yip, totally agree, country is full of grass's......scum.

I don't agree with these old people that are being caught on overstay getting deported, they're no harm to anyone....

Qualified for the knockout stages but no medal for that overstay length.

Would like to know how he was supporting himself as you get nothing here from the government, so either he had funds , was being looked after or was doing some form of work.

If he had money even if not a lot then bit stupid not organising a way to stay here legally, be it a agent or whatever.

He will be gutted he missed the Olympics also !!
