That's beside the point. When an allied nation gets attacked by a hostile nation there is absolutely no reason to be coy about who you want to win.

Allied nation? What allied nation? Is Ukraine a secret member of NATO?  Ukraine cannot "win"; as you put it, so the only choice is negotiation or death. Trump, who I have no affection for, is right on this subject.

Reportedly, Kamala wants another debate. That's what challengers do when they get beat. Trump is not likely to agree without assurances of a neutral venue.
