How to use aircon to keep the air dry?
And consequently use twice as much electricity. Warming up a room with an air con turned on is the most ridiculous thing I have heard from you. But, of course, for you money is no object. A similar thing to someone putting their air con on 18 so it is as cool as in the home country, and sleeping under a 13 TOG duvet. -

Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
Indeed. In 1961 the government introduced the second state pension which was then revamped under the 1975 reforms. Those on a workplace pension scheme were contracted out of the state second pension and had their workplace pension enhanced from NI contributions. Very easy for those receiving the second state pension as part of a generous workplace or private pension, index linked wherever you live, to be critical of those that were never in a position to contract out. They also benefit from their second state pension being covered by the DTA. The whole arrangement was blatent discrimination but unlike the WASPI issue the government feels quite safe from adverse public opinion and media attention. -

Minister Pushes for Bangkok F1 Race Plan with 2024 Deadline
It’s typical Thailand looking at the bottom line of how much money can be made and wondering how much they can scam off. They need to consider the initial infrastructure outlay before F1 will even consider placing a venue on the shortlist and then that the average F1 return on investment is 9 years before any profits can be made. sorry Somchai this isn’t the get rich scheme for you. -

Where to apply for non-immigrant 'O' visa (over-50) without drawing UK pension?
You completely missed the point I was making. Whether you're applying in the UK, Australia or the USA via the e-visa site, the financial requirements remain the same and given in BHT. Financial evidence of a monthly income of 65,000 BHT, or the current balance of 800,000 THB. The financial requirements posted on the Thai Embassy sites are in the local currency. I gave an example of a US citizen applying at DC, who reads just the e-visa site alone and has an income of $2,200 per month. Any quick check on the current conversion rate would return $2,200 = 72,671 BHT - well above the 65K quoted by the e-visa site. Submitting financial evidence on that basis is likely to receive a refusal. The Thai Embassy DC site states a minimum monthly income of $2,500 is required. (82,581 BHT) I was making the point you should also check the financial requirement at the Embassy who will approve your application, and quote the local currency requirement, rather than just rely on the financial requirement quoted on the e-visa site which quotes Thai currency. -

How much would it cost to repair sun burn speedometer of aerox 155
This is a very common problem on Aerox 155 LCD dash, Yamaha usually replaces it under warranty for free, they know they had a bad one on that scooter....! Always try them first even if out of warranty... My friend changed his on 3 years old bike, no charge, his last service showed 27k km, but he had like 33k km at the time, however they could not see it as LCD was dead. After replacing he went back to zero km..!!!? He now has 70k km on it, +33k before, it's passed 100k km, it looks like new, it's amazing...! He no longer uses it as has a new ADV 350, but does not sell the old Aerox for some reason, too much love... lol I think LCD if not under warranty is 4k baht all included at Yamaha... -

My best memory of Thailand
This is exactly the type of memories that made Thailand wonderful.... until you get used to it and the glitter falls away... and all becomes ordinary... but still a great place to live. I have similar memories from 10 years ago but they were in Cambodia not Thailand so won't tell here. -

White Culture
I was waiting for that. That was total war and the Japanese had committed enough atrocities to deserve it. They had expressed the intent to fight to the last man woman and child. There was no prospect of any negotiated surrender. Their culture respected death before surrender. I could argue that they only nuked the wrong target. Tokyo and the emperor should have been nuked instead of the most Christian cities in Japan. But some restraint was shown. As white men do. Seriously, the Japanese were merciless - unlike Whitey - and China still despises them for what they did. Read ‘The Rape of Nanking’.
