Because less than qualified (lots of reasons, laziness #1)people fail to do their jobs in a professional manner.  This attitude and perfoirmance is the main reason so many citizens do not appreciate govt (all levels) employees!  That is my opinion anyway.  On top of that, whenever someone writes an online registration of any type, it should be all inclusive of necessary details.  If a driver's license is used for voter registration, then a citizenship question should be part of the online registration - 98K for sure in fault!  What a stupid error for no reason.  No wonder so many MAGAites believe all that Trump says be it

true or false.  And yes I am well aware, she is no better than him.  We the citizens will be the losers again!  That is my opinion too.

People used to take a pride in their work and in doing a good job - but that was before private equity got involved where all the guys at the top care about is money and their workers are just cogs in the wheel.

Underpaid, overworked, managed by people who don't care as long as they've hit their sacred KPIs, is it any wonder there are mistakes?

I doubt it was a stupid error for no reason. The person who made the "error" knew exactly what they were doing.

They are allowing illegals to have driving licenses so they can swing the vote. How many illegals now? It's millions.

Where does it say that he is illegal? Or is that something that you made up on the spur of the moment?

It doesn't. Mr. Leemens, a Belgian citizen, is a legal resident (Green Card).

He may have ticked the wrong box on his driver's license renewal form (Yes, I want to register to vote), or maybe the data entry clerk misread the form.

Most/all of these ~ 97,000 people are probably citizens. And the Arizona Supreme Court agrees.

The OP can put the Kraken back in its cage, for now.

AZ Supreme Court won’t limit 97,000 improperly registered voters

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled that roughly 97,000 voters who are improperly registered to vote because of a glitch in the state’s driver’s license database won’t be limited on who they can vote for in November because no law authorizes county recorders to change their registration status.

The voters are erroneously registered to vote because of the way the Motor Vehicle Division provides driver’s license information to the state’s voter registration system. The voters affected by this particular coding error are people who first obtained their Arizona driver’s license before October 1996 and then were issued a duplicate replacement before registering to vote sometime after 2004.

Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, a Democrat, said the 97,000 voters skew heavily Republican, and most are between 45 and 60 years old. He opposed Richer’s request, and told the Supreme Court there was no legal mechanism to change the status of so many voters — and it wasn’t legal to do so this close to the Nov. 5 election. His position was supported by the Arizona Republican Party and GOP legislative leaders, as well as a coalition of voting rights advocates.

At least 98,000 reasons why Trump's allegations of illegal and irregular voting has some credence.

This is exactly why a thorough investigation should be done on the Arizona licensing office - either the software or intentional failing to assure all that citizenship must be clearly marked if that is to be used for voter registration.  Check also the registration officials and offices if narrowed down to just one or two.  Too many corrupt officials today, just look at the one's that actually get caught and then picked up by the media.  Scary for sure what polarization in our elections is destroying our democracy.  As we lose that, we will begin to lose freedom for sure.  This is my opinion anyway.

I am a former (now retired) government worker , with 4 years military and 36 years civil servant, plus did work for large manufacurer for a couple of years - I saw many incompetent workers in every job ever had, even to the point where prior to leaving the military, I was sent to co-write my job description and training needed for such and that finished product was immediately accepted by the highest level although it increased training by 2 additional weeks at a time when training time was told to not increase.  I noticed especially, some from my generation but increasingly more during each new generation of people.  To me they appreared to be lazy and felt that they were "entitled" to do less for more money or rights.  A sad story on society of today as this is my opinion.
