The incident occurred when a 19-year-old motorcyclist, reportedly of Shan descent, sped through a police checkpoint, crashing into a senior officer, leaving him in a critical condition. The event took place in the early hours of September 29, at around 01:30 in front of Nakorn Kilo shop on Round Wiang Road, Suan Dok subdistrict, Mueang district, Lampang.

Rescue teams from Sawang Lampang were quickly alerted to the scene of the accident. The checkpoint had been set up by officers from Mueang Lampang Police Station to monitor alcohol levels in passing motorists. The injured officer was identified as Police Captain Klahan Pakowong, 51, who was on duty at the checkpoint when the motorcycle struck him. The impact was so severe that his body was thrown across the road, leaving him unconscious and gravely injured.

Rescue personnel provided immediate first aid before rushing Captain Klahan to Lampang Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, unresponsive, and with significant brain haemorrhage.

Nearby, police found the motorcycle involved in the crash, bearing a Chiang Mai license plate. The young rider responsible for the accident was arrested at the scene and taken to Mueang Lampang Police Station for further questioning.

Captain Klahan remains in a coma, with doctors monitoring his condition closely. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
