  • That is pretty f——- up. What difference does it make where they live if one is vetted and qualified.

  • They knew their pensions would freeze if they left the UK. Next.

EVER the laws covering benefit fraud (specifically Social Security Administration Act 1992) EXCLUDE the state pension as a 'Sanctionable Benefit'.  This means that if you commit state pension fraud your pension cannot be stopped or reduced.  Your pension will simply be adjusted back to the correct 'frozen' level going forward.  You will not have to pay anything back. Theoretically, if you go back to UK you
There is no frozen pension as such, certainly not for receiving one in TH.believe what you want to believe

The UK pension is effectively frozen at the rate originally received by the pensioner, if the pensioner moves abroad and lives outside any one of the countries that has an agreement with DWP that includes increases. The list can be found on the DWP website, or on .gov.uk. Most EU countries are included, Philippines, and I believe Turkey are amongst those that are included, but see below:

Glad America doesn’t have that policy but if Harris wins anything is possible to include complete forfeiture to give to those who refuse to work.  Socialism is what she represents.

If you define socialism as opposition to significant tax breaks to the filthy rich, raising the minimum wage to a liveable wage and offering affordable health care to those unfortunate enough to be on the minimum wage then she is guilty as charged. Sounds like you might be paying her a compliment.

I don’t.

Losers blame the government; they should have saved, invested or got better jobs. They always have money for pussy though.

Just explained SS to another rocket scientist a few threads earlier.

Read it and learn something.

As I recall the UK old age pension is a hand out. I am not completely sure but someone here should explain the facts.

My NI payments were near 20% of my salary, but if you don't work it is a handout.

What's not enforceable? You still have to provide an address. Oh you mean a charge of pension fraud is unenforceable? Sure, but why take the risk?

Next.

NO, WRONG, I for one was not aware of this blatant discrimination, like thousands of others, so crawl back under the stone you squirmed from.

Sure, use a UK address or whatever. Many do. None of my business. But I don't pay UK tax on account of having stopped work there and having left 9 years ago so it would look a bit odd if I used a UK address for the DWP.

Well, it's there in black and white for all to see on the government's website. With warnings about moving abroad and the possible consequences. Ignorance is not a sin, nor a crime, but it won't get you off the hook.

Wow, only 5 posts in and racism is shoehorned into a UK pension discussion.

FYI the people to whom you refer are not "illegal".

Some are even forced to return to the UK, putting extra strain on the NHS and social care system, reported iNews UK.

“Government help is what we need, and we need it soon.”

I'd guess that this is the key, the savings made by keeping the pensions frozen may be outweighed by the cost of tens of thousands socially and economically  fragile returnees.

Best of luck..

This is State Pension

You sound very empathetic and caring!

Have you considered that many of those people have lived here for decades and have families here. Perhaps their financial planning and acumen wasn't that great three decades ago and they misjudged the high cost of inflation over that period, but is that entirely their fault. Telling a 75 year old to go back to a country where he has no assets or family and hasn't lived for thirty years, whilst all his family is here, is not helpful.

Inflation always existed. Three decades ago I was 21 and would not move to another country where I have zero rights just because I was 😺 hungry.

Amazing sentence. I was raised seeing miners happy to walk to the bus stop to catch the bus to their afternoon shift.

After 40 gruelling years in an office without planning for a retirement it seems .. guess it was  surprise when he retired after all who knew eh  ?

Whilst the basic State Pension cannot be garnished to repay any (Fraudulent) overpayments, other "Benefits" (Including additional Pension Credits) can be:-

  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Housing Benefit
  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Industrial Death Benefit
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
  • Industrial Injuries Reduced Earnings Allowance

  • Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • War Disablement Pension

All near 20% paid by you for your entire working career.  No employer match?

In USA employees pay about 7.5 % and employer pays another 7.5 %.  15 % into the coffers.

At retirement age and withdrawing it is taxed by the federal government (80%).

Medicare payments are also deducted from SS payments.

Payments are subject to COLA (cost of living adjustment) when given.

Seems that some guys came here with zero planning. And somehow can't go back?

All they longing for was just some sun and a beer.

And look what happened

This is a really poorly written article in many ways.

I thought people had lost access to their pensions.

And how does not getting a yearly increase leave people living "hand to mouth".

Geez!

No State Pension

And no rise! I read the whole thread. If you leave again, your pension reverts to the very first payment amount, ie pre frozen, with no increases.

And you have somewhere in the UK to stay for 6 months? Is the UK affordable? And the cost of the return flight? That alone will hardly be covered by any rise you'll see while back in the UK. Is it really worth it?

Return flight to Philippines about 6,000 THB. Ring the DWP. Tell them you've moved there. Pay pension into Wise account. YMMV and I would expect you to spend at least 6 months there...I'm not advising breaking any laws. It's only a suggestion which probably won't be useful to many. Like tax avoidance for the rich. It's not tax evasion. There's a huge difference.

UK nearly the same as USA, BUT employers aren't that charitable, assume their 10% comes from you getting a lower salary.
