A 54-year-old woman lost her life after her car plunged into the Trang River on October 2. The vehicle, a white Honda Brio, was found submerged at a depth of 5 metres. The accident occurred near a sluice gate in the Nong Trut subdistrict of Trang’s Muang district.

Rescue divers from the Kusonsathan Trang Foundation, along with the Pitak Cheewit and Sawang Phakdee Trang rescue teams, arrived at the scene around 16:00 . It took over an hour to recover the woman’s body, which was discovered in the driver’s seat. The victim has been identified as Mrs. Puangrat (last name withheld), a resident of Khok Lo subdistrict, Trang.

CCTV footage from the sluice gate area showed the white car crossing a bridge and parking by the roadside before suddenly veering off-camera and into the river. Investigators speculate that the woman may have accidentally engaged the wrong gear while practicing driving along the riverbank, an area with little traffic, causing the vehicle to plunge into the river.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the rear of the car emerge above the water before it gradually sank within 3-4 minutes. The car was approximately 3 metres from the riverbank, and it was noted that the driver’s window was half-lowered at the time of the accident.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.
